Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • B5: Oil Pressure gauge install

    Hey There
I bought a gauge and am trying to figure out how to power it.
I am getting a tee to set the sender in with the original pressure switch. I can run the cables into the cabin through the ECU entry.
What should I use for ignition switched power?

The gauge is set up with power, earth and signal and they are all together until they get to the sender end of the run.
I think it makes more sense to pull the power and earth cables through and terminate them under the dash somewhere and just have the one signal cable going to the sender.

    Any tips?

In a Passat the fuse box is in the drivers end of the dash Get one of these from Jaycar and find a SPARE fuse socket and get ACC power from there Nice and neat and safe.,. I do my dash cams like that.

It looks like any spot with no fuse has no wires or power
Has anybody else tried this? Got any tips for a fuse location number?

One of these will do Cant remember which is which.

Easiest way to sort it is to stick a multi meter into the top half of the top one If it has power with ignition off its the other one.
the blanks have power to the top half and if you push a fuse in you will get power Put the wire end of the fuse to the bottom and it will work just like an ordinary fuse.

The top one is a mini and the other one is a standard size They are $6.95 at Jaycar

            Thanks Hillbilly.
            I'll give it a swing.
I already bought one of each type from Jaycar!

I went through the ECU box and out to the bulkhead. Just ran out of wire before the sender. Will need to extend it next week (and put the front end back together) to try it out.
