Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Safety Triangle

It appears there is a spot in the tailgate door for a safety triangle but it appears there isn't one in there. Does anyone know if they came with the car? Anyone know the part number?

Mine came with one and at the price of the car should have got a mechanic to go with it LOL

8D9 860 251 B is the number on the outside of the plastic case that its in No numbers on the actual triangle mechanism

B6 and B7 triangle holders are different. Ive tried puting a B7 triangle and case into a B6 and it didnt fit. Although, I didnt try the triangle not in the plastic case.

Yeah I seem to have found the triangle and first aid kit on oemparts.com but the postage is ridiculous. I have emailed them to confirm their shipping prices.

It is not standard in R36.
I bought a VW on which fits from overseas and my friend brought it over for me.

Is it really worth worrying about The Polo has the space but no triangle. The chances of ever needing to use one would be about the same as winning lotto

Probably nothing except the desire to spend money rather needlessly.

In the same vein I want a Mercedes C250 but wont be buying one as my Passat will do just nicely

                    Best things ever!
Used my brother in laws triangle on a Serbian highway in 2012, always use to say what's the point , but when I needed it, I had one.
My wife and I just had this argument about the triangle and first aid kit which in most EU countries (Serbia too) you need to have.

VGA started ommiting them from Australian-delivered cars a few years ago, presumably to keep the build cost down.

It's all good and well to have one and use it (and I encourage it), but the average car user wouldn't know what it was and meant, if they saw one placed behind a stricken vehicle anyway.

Generally not supplied in AU as they aren't a compliance item (as they are in Europe). Bunnings sell them for $10
