Stay in constant contact so that no one forgets your early deposit. Unless they can pre order i cant see it helping this far out though.

the 280ps golfr engine is a cracker in my new golf r however i would prefer at least the 2.5l ttrs engine in the new passat at least however possibly the bi turbo diesel.

Alas Carpoint confirms the end of the 3.6l and the intro of the Golf R motor. I must say though as a very happy Mk7 R owner that the engine is a cracker!

I concur, purchased a mk7 R to go along with the v6 passat.. coulnd't be happier . it should however have 4 motion and it should get a tune.

Well that's not good news. I have no doubt the Golf R engine is good - everything I've read praises it - but it's down on power compared to the 3.6 and it's massively down on power compared to the 265kw beast in my A45. It has much less torque compared to the A45, too - though I suspect that's (still) limited to play nicely with the six speed DSG.

If that's all there is - a six speed gearbox that can't handle much torque, mated to a (relatively) low power four pot engine - I can't see myself driving one.

Unfortunately the alternatives are few and far between. I think the only real competitor in Australia is the RS6, since we don't get the all wheel drive AMG models. They're all a lot more $$$, anyway.

As an A45 owner you might be interested in this Steve, not a lot that separates the R from A45 (in real world conditions) and the R engine and 6 spd DSG box can easily handle a tune to push it right into A45 territory (REVO have a tune already for the MK7 R, looks very impressive).

I've read it, but I just can't get excited. I was hoping for something even more ridiculous than the R36 but it seems like they're taking a backward step into conservatism. I just can't warm to a four pot that's 60kw and 70nm down on the A45, even though it's probably easily remedied (and I imagine the dull sound will be easy but not cheap to fix, too).

In a few weeks I'm heading overseas for three months and when I get back I'm planning on upgrading the A45 with the Willall phase 1.5 kit: 265kw and 450nm to 335kw and 610nm! It's going to be hard for any all wheel drive wagon, short of an RS, to compete with those figures

                          Sigh. I need more dollars

Volkswagen Polo and Passat R models still in the mix
Volkswagen AG’s board member in charge of powertrain development Dr Heinz-Jakob Neusser hinted that a turbocharged B8 R36 Passat replacement is entirely possible so long as market demand exists.

My guess is the 2.5T I5 from the TTRS.
a 2.0T is too small and a 3.0T is too big and will canibalise sales from the a5/a6
