Official Passat B8 Spyshots / Sketches / Speculation Thread
Looks like a solid car. A little boring, as I thought that they stepped backwards going from the B6 to the B7, but it still looks alright. I am really disappointed that they have totally forgotten about those people that like a little flare with their cars. The R Line car, while looking better, is far from sporting. I respect all the hype about fuel savings but for god sake, there are lots of people out there that like to have some sport in their daily driver. I don't think a lot of car companies are realising how much us Aussie's like some sport in their cars. Surely they see it with how well the GTI golf sells here and abroad, but I guess our market is just a drop compared to the rest of the world. VW, give us a turbo V6!!! Please!!! Or a V8, although that is pushing it I know!! . Bring back the R36!!! R36...R36...R36...R36........ haha!
2013 Touareg V8TDi - Black, LED Interior Mods, LED Projector "VW" Door Courtesy Lights, 20" VW Mountain Rims with A/T Tyres, Pioneer SX Roof Platform with some 4x4 accessories and a whole lotta torque
It would be an odd decision to put the three litre twin turbo vr6 engine in there as it currently is - 370kw and 560nm. It'll either be detuned or not in there at all, which will be disappointing. I can't imagine that engine with that power going to a Volkswagen application rather than an Audi S or RS car.
It makes far more sense for VW to put the 2.5 litre turbo inline 5 (the 250kw version) in the new hero Passat.
If the hot Passat gets the same two-point-boring engine as the Golf R, my VW days will be over. Here's hoping the 370kw/560nm engine makes it, but I'm not all that hopeful...
I like the new exterior, I think there is an opportunity for some decent sports kits to help if it doesn't look the part for some tastes (which is the same for a lot of cars). The AMG model for Merc has worked wonders for their margins, not sure why VW don't offer something similar.
The dash display mechanism (and being able to select/customise) looks promising, to be fair the interior is something I have grown to really appreciate over the years in my CC and do like this version, clean lines and it doesn't look cluttered (I was turned off the interior of a few test drives this year in a CLA, a 320 and a peek at the Q50).
Now to see what the new CC looks like, this could be bloody good alternative if the price point is right and I can get the level of goodies I want (not holding my breath but hey). Its a contender for me if it can deliver at less then 50K.
Am in the ridiculous situation at present where both the current Jetta and Passat have less rear legroom than our MkV Jetta (due to inferior packaging). After I adjust my front seat to accommodate my 6'8" frame there is stuff all room in the back seat of the current Jetta and Passat.
Fingers crossed ... if so, I'll take the fast version with the big wheels as per the adverts ...
I too am excited by the claimed spec for the 2 litre diesel engine. Just a couple of queries.....which DSG will it have to withstand the 500Nm torque and what are the chances of remapping this engine to get any further performance gains from it (or is this about the limit the 2 litre diesel engine will go to currently).
The Audi longitudinal DSG 7 speed (S-tronic) is rated up to 600Nm, and supports up to 330kW. But it's the wrong orientation! But that's easy to fix right?
