  • Where are Passats Built?

    I believe that Passats are assembled in Brazil - is this correct?

    Are all Passats built in the same place?

    I know that my GTI was built in South Africa, but the standard Golfs are built elsewhere, and the R36 is built in Germany.

    Would be interested to know - and wonder where the R36 will be assembled?

    Not that it makes too much of a difference - with the amount of machine assembly there is little room for human intervention.

    Look forward to hearing more from the tree of knowledge which is VWWatercooled.
    Confirmed Global Warming Sceptic. No Longer a VW Owner -Loving my new 2011 Range Rover Sport - bought as VW unable to provide info on the new Toureg despite it being released overseas 12 mths ago. 2008 R36 Wagon, 2006 GTI and 2004 R32 - Gone. Sorry VW, you make great cars but until you improve your customers' experiences you will lose customers

    Actually all Golf MK5's, Jetta's and Polo's sold in Australia are built in South Africa. The early Polo GTI's were built in Spain though.

    Passat's may be built in Spain as well but not sure, Mexico builds all the New Beetles for the world.

    Somebody that knows the VIN number coding may be able to enlighten us as there us an indication of country of manufacture in there somewhere I believe.

      Not so, Australian MkK5 Jettas are built in Mexico, and from my recollection I think MK5 GTI 5 door is built in SA and 3 door in Germany. I seem to recall there is a thread on this subject that gives this info in detail.

        I can confirm you that the Australian version Passats (Included the R36) are still built in Germany. I have ordered a TDI 125kw one last month and been informed by the local dealer that the car is being built and delivery will be in mid June (end of July the latest) if I am lucky enough. Hope this answer your question.

            Here is the thread that details where each model is built.

            Here is an excerpt from that thread, amazing how much info is available on this forum.

              Passat build

              Mine was built in Mosel, Germany. In the VIN number the 9th character gives the assembly plant. Letter P = Mosel, Germany.

              As far as I know all are built in Germany but not sure if there are any other assembly plants.

                      Don't know if the VW, AUDI and Skoda codes are the same. In VW land I've now been able to add 3 more:

                      1 = Gyor, Hungary
                      2 = Changchun, China

                      4 = Curitiba, Brazil

                      and 2 seems to be different to your Skoda code.

                      May need to determine the Audi and Skoda codes as well .......
