  • About to Purchase R36 Wagon

Hey Guys, finally about to bite the bullet and have chosen to purchase an R36 Wagon to be used as my daily work car. It was a long and hard decision between new(not new model) Skoda VRS Octavia or used R36. I have found one at a dealership in melbourne. Its blue, 2009, Dynaudio, 82K, NO sunroof, but in immaculate condition. Asking 39K driveway but i really want to spend about 35K. I did notice though that all interior lights and exterior lamps on the mirrors were LED and also the steering wheel was not standard. Still had the R insignia on the bottom so i am thinking maybe it came from an R type Golf.
Any thoughts on this or if anyone has recently purchased one, what are they selling for.
    Regards Alex

    Hi mate,
I bought an R36 wagon on Christmas eve. Based on what you have described, 39k is too much. There are plenty on carsales to give you an idea of prices but that does seem a little excessive but in saying that, I haven't personally seen the car so it really is up to you. You won't regret getting one though mate, believe me. They are sensational cars and the wagons have a huge amount of boot space too. Let us know how you go. I do like the blue ones!!

Thought I would throw my 2cents in there, yeah, seems too high to me. I have had my white R36 wagon for 6 months now. It did have a lot higher KM's on when I bought it (135k), but it was purchased from a dealer, and shipped to my front door for $29k.

Thanks guys. Been looking for a while and all 2009 with the options and around 80K are all around that $34-$39K mark. I do need to purchase from a dealer as it is going to be purchased through my business so i can claim the GST back. If i can get it for around 34-35K driveway then i feel its a decent price for a car in that condition with the options it has. Here is a link to the car.

Yeah, like the other guys mentioned, you should be able to pick one up for a lot less than 39k. Especially with those sort of KMs on the clock.

And personally, hold out for one with a sunroof. Really makes it something special.

The numbers sound steep to me. Mine's done 28k km and I'll eventually sell it with a tax invoice but I like driving it too much! I think those numbers should buy you something which has done a whole heap less work.

Good luck though. They're a terrific drive.

Seems too much for me. At the end of the day it is 09 and has done 80k. I bought my 09 CC V6 a month ago for $27k from interstate. So you might wanna check interstate cars? More options.

Bought my R36 blue sedan from that very same dealership a few weeks ago. Mine was also in immaculate condition. I must say they do a good job of sourcing decent condition cars.

It does sound a bit high, but given the condition I personally would take it if it were 2k cheaper. Might be worth seeing what sort of bargaining power you have for a "quick and easy" sale?

Edit: mine was a 2010 blue sedan, 60k kms, no sunroof etc $36k. A little exxy but worth it for the condition

Took it for a spin today. Car presents as new, seats are great, ride is a bit hard BUT was expecting a little more with the performance. I am not used to the lag taken when u put your foot down to when the car decides to take off. Thought I found my next car now I'm a little flat.
Having said that I offered 35k but we're still 2k away from a deal
Is anyone aware whether a tune can help with the slow response from the auto.(although once it gets going it sounds great and picks up ok)
probably doesn't help coming from a 400 kW torque monster

I have a DNA tune on mine. Butt dyno feels a like little more at the top end but it's insignificant. The biggest difference was a change to the throttle mapping which makes it "feel" more responsive on takeoff. A heavier right foot would do the same thing

good luck! I am still looking as well, a white or blue wagon.

ViC has more R36 for sale than NSW, you will find one soon!

I just bought an MY09 R36 in early January, private seller. Had sat nav and auto tailgate but no sunroof or dynaudio for $31,000. Had just under 80k and was in excellent condition.

Good luck with your search - I think quite a few will be coming into the market over the next few months.

Drove 2 hours each way to look at a blue2009 93k, no sunroof wagon. It was advertised for $30k and supposedly in excellent condition. Paint was covered in scratches(every panel) and the interior had a few Brocken plastic bits( easily replaced). The car went really well. Unfortunately the service books aren't ideal even though a dealer was in charge of servicing. I enquired as to whether the DSG service and haldex service had been done. A quick call to the dealer showed that the dealer had not replaced the haldex oil but did do the DSG service at 60k km. even though the body was full of scratches, the car is going in next week for a $10500 paint job( insurance job)
so in effect the body should be as new. I put in an offer and now we wait. HOWEVER, I am also going to look at a rs6 c5 wagon tomorrow early afternoon. I know nothing about these except for that they are pretty rare and never come up for sale. I shouldn't even contemplate it BUT a twin turbo 4.2 litre sounds tempting
