Have a look in the ECU tuning thread.

I don't rate the concept of tuning boxes, if thats what you mean by chip.

It's most likely that your ECU will need to be removed for a bench flash, to access the boot pin.

Thanks for the feedback from what I've read it can be a minefield, I'll see if I can find a supplier that totally guarantees their work as I've only had the car three months and don't want to stuff it up.

Being in WA, you are somewhat limited for local tuner choices. Make sure the tuner actually knows what the heck they are doing before handing them your keys.

For the record, my car (Golf R), my friends car (Golf GTI) and my brothers Octavia TDI are all tuned with DNA Tuning (UK based company with a distributor in Melbourne) and ive got nothing but good things to say about them. Obviously there are other tuners out there though.
