I put a deposit on an R36 today and included with the paperwork was a flyer on Volkswagen Insurance (provided by Allianz). The cover looks pretty good. Is anyone familiar with the rates compared to other insurance companies?

In reply to Wyatt, unfortunately I have had to call on my insurance company already due to someone rear ending my 4 month old Passat Wagon. I was under the impresion that my VW Comprehensive insurance (Allianz) was in fact comprehensive, however upon reading the fine print I was not covered for a loan vehicle. So the moral of the story is that comprehensive is not actually comprehensive and there are a couple of extra options available. I have since shelled out an additional $10 per month to cover for a loan/rental vehicle albeit too late in this instance.

I guess once people start calling to ask about insurance they'll start adding the R36 to their systems.

 R36 wagon

I hope you don't mind me bumping this thread. I'm picking up my new R36 wagon this Friday! I stopped by the dealership yesterday to take a look. Can't wait! I stopped by the dealership yesterday to take a look. Can't wait!

So I now need to sort out insurance and I've noted that prices can vary significantly.

@ all you R36 wagon owners:
Where do you have your little beauties insured? How much do you pay and what's your excess?

 Thanks! Silver R36 wagon MY09 Silver R36 wagon MY09

I've now been in contact with most of the big and some of the small companies. Thought I'd share my findings here - hopefully it can be of help to someone.

These quotes are based on an R36 wagon for private use, youngest driver 30+ years, nominated drivers, less than 10,000km/year, highest NCB, garaged at night, Sydney eastern suburbs. Excess $500 unless specified.

 - Budget Direct: No quote available for this vehicle
 - Lumley Special Vehicles: $1370
 - Suncorp: $2250
 - GIO: $1970
 - CGU: $1578
 - NRMA: $1433 (excess $1000)
 - RealInsurance: $1070
 - HBA: $1054
 - AAMI: $1781 (excess $550)
 - Ryno: $1547
 - JustCars: $1638 (excess $600)

It's also worth mentioning that Choice just published a full review/comparison of car insurance policies on their website.

I will definitely go with HBA. Good price, scored really well in the comparison and very friendly service (at least so far). Silver R36 wagon MY09 Silver R36 wagon MY09
