  • RNS510 locked

Hello eveyone, I have been having some issues with VW in Ringwood & wanted some help. After taking the car back to them on a warranty issue relating to the dealer fitted towbar they inadvertantly disconnected the aftermarket Kufatec RVC & advised they could not recode it. I took the car back to Motivauto who originally fitted my RVC & they couldn't get into the head unit (RNS510) to recode. They then pulled my head unit out & put in a spare head unit they had lying around & the RVC was up & running within minutes.

Motivauto said that VW must have somehow locked the head unit & wouldn't let him in to code the RVC. I rang VW Ringwood & they were not willing to offer any help to "unlock" & advised that I should not be fitting any after market equipment on the car as this will void warranty.

Is there anyone out there that knows how I can get my RNS510 unit "unlocked" so I can get the RVC back up & running? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am in the Melb metro area.

That warranty void comment is stupid.
VW dealers fit non factory accessories all the time and it has no bearing on warranty.

If they disconnected it and now it does not work I would be telling them it is their responsibility to fix it.

what do u mean by locked? does the radio work or does it ask for the pin code? a dealer cant actually code none gen or after market stuff as the vw tester does not allow it as all coding is done online.. so if its a gen towbar for example you get the online code for that part to that car.. but as a reverse camera is not a gen accessorie kit there is no code avalible.. thats where VCDS comes into play in the after market world... apart from the radio being locked due to not having the 4 digit pin there is no other way it can be "locked" for coding etc....VDUB...

Remember who owns the car here mate, not them! If you want to cut the thing in half, that is your decision not theirs! Warranty, well that's another point but they have no right to tell you that you cannot do it. So if you had aftermarket wheels on your ride, that voids warranty? please....

Thanks SnowMotion. I tried with vein to tell them they must sort it out. Not only were they unwilling but would nor even consider paying for Motivauto to recode let alone assist Motivauto to get back into the unit.

They are implying that if anything goes wrong relating to coding in future, they claim that it is all interlinked & may not honour any warranty claim as a result of the RVC.

Very hard to argue with someone who wouldn't even aplogise for the fault the miscoding int he first palce & me having to take my car back on 5 separate occasions to get it fixed.

The RNS will only ask for a pin if it is installed in a vehicle with a different VIN.
If it is physically removed and then installed in the same car again it just starts up.
Need some clarification by what is meant by 'locked'.

When I mean "locked" it is something to do with not letting Motivauto into it to re-code the RVC. I have full function of the RNS510 unit so it isn't locked out from that perspective. The tech from Motivauto said it just keeps coming up with an error everytime & has never seen that before. As I said, he was able to get HIS RNS510 unit hooked up & working in minutes. Also note that Motivauto originally coded my same RNS510 unit 12 months ago when they originally fitted the RVC.

The tech from Motivauto did suggest that maybe I received any updated set of codes when the car was at VW Ringwood that is causing this issue. I am just keen to get the RVC up & running.

Hi vdubmotorworx, I notice from your signature that you deal with coding type matters so will know a lot more than me. My previous post hopefully has shed more light. Any help would be much appreciated.

You need to get someone with latest VCDS to check the unit for fault codes and try and code it for you.
Absolute worse case you may have to load a factory firmware image which will set coding to 00000000000, then recode it correctly.

there is no way of locking a control unit so it cant be coded unless its the immobilizer... very strange... do you know what the dealer did to fix your towbar? what was the issue with the towbar? they may have recoded the gateway etc online which may have erased your camera coding as it would have set it back as per factory but with a towbar....VCDS would be best to have a play around and see... i would have a look but your not in Brizzy...VDUB...

Thanks Vdub. What VW Ringwood told me is that they got a full set of codes from VWA & entered the full suite in. The original problem with the towbar was that when a trailer was connected, the reverse sensors where not disengaged so would buzz away when in reverse. In the process of fixing that problem initially, they stuffed up my lane assist & auto park. They claim the only way to fix this is to upload a full set of codes in & put everything back to factory set, henxe the RVC stopped working.

Can anyone recommend contact in Melb area that can have a look for me via VCDS?
