As for the bluemotion, my wife never uses it or the auto hold. It took me a few weeks to get use to it but drive with it on all the time but only with the auto hold function active. in the early days I had an experience when the car didn't start straight away an almost rolled into a T section while I was trying to accelerate.

Having owns my Alltrack since January I've noticed that occasionally the head unit can be a little slow to start off. Music starts pretty much straight away but the screen needs time to launch which can be annoying when you want to reverse and the camera doesn't display straight away. Anyone else notice this?
The unit takes about 30secs to start from cold usually as it has to load stuff into it before the screen comes on.
If you use auto hold usually the engine wont stop as its done by how hard you apply the brakes
If you have auto hold on and use that and not the brake pedal the motor will keep going I never use auto hold as its slower to let go than the motor starting. Usually I lift off the brake just as I think the lights will change and so am ready to go when they do.
Also if you are to quick on the loud pedal it will hesitate as the clutches havent had time to engage and naughty things will happen.
Mine has a gold interior and so mats were essential.

There is a big thread on these from when they first came out if you want to have a look for ideas etc.

Yes, it's especially annoying if you want to enter a destination into the satnav before you start.

I find autohold essential when using stop/start so that the car doesn't roll while the engine is starting. When stopped at a red light I keep the brake pedal on, which will cause the engine to stop and stay stopped. A few seconds before the lights are about to change, I lift my foot off the brake pedal so that the engine restarts. The auto-hold prevents the car from rolling or creeping until I'm ready to move off. When ready to go, press the accelerator.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. The auto hold works really well. I barely notice it and only turn it off when trying to roll backwards slowly (parking, etc).
The start stop doesn't like to be rushed but if you're driving normally you're only in hold for half a second at worst and you save fuel. If you know you'll be going again almost immediately then just don't completely stop the wheels.

I thought the quick on the loud pedal delay was the turbo spooling up vs gear selection. I found a quick gradual push gives a better response than just stamping on it.

The thing I had to learn was that the handbrake only turns off automatically when your seatbelt is plugged in. I thought it had a life of its own until I read the manual.

I haven't used sat nav before this so can't comment.

I have the boot liner that has a small lip around the edges. It looks a bit like the rubber floor mats but is a thin plastic.

I put the clear sill protection on too as the kids climb in and out, etc. you have ro look really closely yo see it. It's all the rage to get in through the electric boot at the moment. Doors just aren't fun enough apparently...

This is partly what is causing the clutch burn outs on the 7 spd boxes When You come up behind traffic DONT CREEP Stop still until the line moves again because letting it creep is the same as slipping a clutch on a manual. Will ultimately cause clutch failure.

I usually do mine the night before if I know I need it or go out and put it in while waiting for wife to put her face on LOL

Thanks for the tip. Is this true even under braking? When does the coasting function kick in?

Dont know mine is a 2011 and doesnt have coasting or as we say "Maori overdrive"

As far as I understand it from posts on here if you let the brake off lightly and hold it with the car just moving the mechatronics holds the plates just touching and as in a manual slips them and thereby causing heat and burning as with your old Falcodore.

Also both the boot mats have a raised edge the foam one feels very light and bends easily

The synthetic one is heavier and stiffer but is no where near as heavy as the rubber one I bought from Supercrap for $38 and cut to fit I now have it on top of the good one.

The B7 Passat has a coasting function (I know that the Alltrack definitely does) It's turned on and off via the steering wheel controls.
I have mine always disabled as I like to use engine braking.
When active, it should disengage the clutch when the car is rolling (I think at any speed) and engages when you touch the brake or accelerator.

Havent found it on mine and as far as I was aware it was introduced on the 11.5 which is the model after mine. It certainly isnt mentioned in the brochure I have since before I bought it.

Be careful as there are two boot mats. Neither are real rubber The cheap one about ($180) is foam and dents with sharp things
The better one looks like rubber but is synthetic and I was quoted $368 for one However I got it for free in the end.
The Bluemotion is on by default and has to be turned off each trip if you dont want it.
Just dont hold the bake on hard and it wont stop the engine.
Thanks for the tips... Shame on the SatNav, as this is something I wanted to have on my dashboard... Do you get the traffic update for free on WV or you have to buy it like tomtom ?

I'm not keen to waste $180... the synthetic one sounds ok.. we have a little one as well and always throwing things in and out of the boot.. so this would be great..

This is really good info to know, i will have to train the wife... Is this still a major problem in the 13.5 Passats ?

Can be a problem with ANY DSG box, lesser so with the 6 spd wet clutch box Not so good on a 7spd

No traffic with VW at all as far as I have found.

A $38 boot mat from Supercrap cut to fit worked for me until my proper one arrived and I then put it on top of the expensive one.

Have seen them on Ebay at times and from a place in USA but postage would be horrendous. It cost me about $24 to post the foam one to Vic

I have 3M film on the rear bumper and door sills to stop scratches.

You can buy cut shapes for the door handle recesses fairly cheap from a guy in Canada that would stop fingernail marks under the handles. I have a couple of metres of it ATM that I might cut some out of Its $30 a metre for 300mm wide
