  • Another new Alltrack thread...

Our new wheels arrived on Friday. Only just getting around to posting photos.
Quite liking the black oak brown (having not seen it in the metal before).

Very happy so far. I was thinking the auto tailgate would be annoying but it's kind-a fun to play with. Our 3yo loves it too...

Looks good, a different brown to ours Be careful that when kid plays with tailgate there is room to open it. I nearly hit mine on a roller door when I reversed too far into garage. Also parking with it to close to a wall can have dire consequences

I've been starting to see a few alltrack a around lately and I reckon my favorite two colours are the two browns. They seem to suit the 'toughened up' look well. I'm really happy I took the 'risk' on the brown as I hadn't seen it in the metal before delivery.

Fuel use is around 8-10L but mostly short city drives. It did about 6.8 on a trip to the snow fully laden with roof racks.

The only option we picked was the fancy headlight pack (which are awesome, btw). In retrospect I might have gone the big sunroof but only because we park on the street and its a pain to get bird poo off the roof paint!

I put rubber floor mats in it too.

So far, it's been a really fantastic family hauler and is surprisingly capable on rough ground.

I agree. Before delivery I was worried that I'd made the wrong choice with the Black Oak Brown, but now I'm really happy with it.

Got 8.3 on our last tank, which was city driving only.

The bi-xenons are great. Very glad we go those too. Also really happy with is the adaptive cruise control. The only option we got that I probably wouldn't get again was the ParkAssist. It tends to put the back wheel up on the kerb maybe 50% of the time.

Have you considered some sort of paint protection to help with the bird poo problem?

Yeah I like the brown as well, but went for the Iceland Grey in the end.. 8 around town is fine for such a great car...

I was thinking of getting Nanolex as my car will live on the street as well.. I got the sunroof as I have always wanted the Pana sunroof and hope it's not to much hassle to maintain..

I wish I was able to get the headlights package but I was already pushing the budget so I did not get it...

Sounds like you have been doing some miles in the car.

What roof racks did u end up getting VW or 3rd party ?

The Icelandic was my second choice as it has the least contrast with the plastic. I expect it will give a better resale too.

The headlights are really only of value if you're doing country driving. Otherwise they'd unnecessary. We have a place at lake Eucumbene in the snowies so will usually head up 5 or 6 times a year. We didn't get it until after Easter so it's only had one go so far and did a great job.

The headlights really come into their own with all the roos on those back roads.

I tend to leave my roof racks on so I went for whispbars. They're more labour intensive to put on and take off but they're the quietest on the market (might be a factor when your sunroof is open).

I should probably look at some paint protection. ESP on the roof. C

Thanks for the tip on the whispbars...

Yeah thats the main reason I went for the Icelandic because of the contrast with the plastic... not sure on resale but maybe..

We have a white car at the moment so this is a big change for us..

We do a little county driving but only once every 3 months... so not to bad for us..

I was thinking of the paint protection mainly because of the darker color.

Have you used the MDI function at all and if so did u buy a cable from the dealer or off line ?

It was $80 at the dealer so was not to keen just for a cable..

They say silvers, greys and blacks have better resale and of those, the Icelandic is the best fit on an alltrack.

Haven't used the mdi cable. Occasionally I'll play music through Bluetooth from my phone so haven't bothered looking any further yet!

                          Interesting.. thanks..

Yes I bet the car is to much fun to drive... How do you find the satnav ? I'm a tomtom user and at the moment.. so keen to see how the VW satnav is..

Did you get a boot liner or anything ? We are ordering the rubber boot liner so we can put the kids things in easy... they said it comes with carpet matts as standard..

Do you use the bluemotion around town ?

We went with Icelandic grey for the same reason as most it seems, they don't stand out.

I've found the MDI cable a bit laggy to use but it could be because I bought the cable online rather than a dealer (might be a cheap copy) It does the job but streaming music via bluetooth is much easier and the std iphone cable plugs in to charge the phone so not sure there's that much benefit from the MDI cable.

Standard the boot floor is carpeted, no mats though. We have a 3 month old and throw his stroller + toys in the back without any boot protector because the floor looks fairly durable.

As for the bluemotion, my wife never uses it or the auto hold. It took me a few weeks to get use to it but drive with it on all the time but only with the auto hold function active. in the early days I had an experience when the car didn't start straight away an almost rolled into a T section while I was trying to accelerate.

Having owns my Alltrack since January I've noticed that occasionally the head unit can be a little slow to start off. Music starts pretty much straight away but the screen needs time to launch which can be annoying when you want to reverse and the camera doesn't display straight away. Anyone else notice this?

As a fellow Tomtom user you will be disappointed to say the least with the VW unit as far as Nav goes

The MDI cable can be bought for about $14 on Ebay but I found it a pain to have the phone in the glovebox so put the music on the HDD and an SD card and keep the phone for what it is.

Be careful as there are two boot mats. Neither are real rubber The cheap one about ($180) is foam and dents with sharp things
The better one looks like rubber but is synthetic and I was quoted $368 for one However I got it for free in the end.
The Bluemotion is on by default and has to be turned off each trip if you dont want it.
Just dont hold the bake on hard and it wont stop the engine.
