  • Picking up new Alltrack Soon. What to look out for?

    Hi all,
If all goes to plan I should have my new Alltrack in about two weeks. This is my first ever new car. What should I be checking and is there any specific questions about the car I should be asking. The dealer is Jacksons in Hobart if anyone has dealt with them.

    Thanks in advance
    Jock

The map DVD you might get but its free on here anyway. The manual should be in the glovebox Depends on the salesman how much instruction you get. Mine spent 90min explaining all the features.
Get in take it home Read the manual, drive it.

I asked the same question back in Jan when I picked up my Alltrack. Make sure any extras you got with the car are fitted and that the car has been washed and detailed.

Sales guy will run through the car with you but spend some time reading the manual when you get home because there's a few tricks that you won't be aware of straight away.

I found that there's nothing tricky really about picking up a brand new car from the dealer except that you confirm with them how they want the final payment to be made. (I was told on the day that they don't accept bank cheques)

Mostly I expect to do what hillbilly said, with the add-on of: take it nice and slow, be double careful of the morons on the road. Drive home, RTFM, then and only THEN take it for a nice cruise.

Check that you get all the features and addons you ordered. No nicks and dings from transport of ham-fisted detailer. Clean work on the towbar, if you got one.

Stop giggling maniacally when you sit inside.

                Ha ha. thank you
Just dont follow to close to anyone like I did and get a stone chip on the bumper 10 k's after I left the dealer.
Was no touchup paint available for over 6 months either

I would have had a rage face to end all rage faces!

Then again... getting that sort of thing out of the way soon may be the best way to start treating the car like you actually want to drive it and not wrap it in swaddling.

Sorry, I had to say it because that is what someone said to me on golfmkv when I got my gti in 2007.

Would suggest that you write a list of things you need to check when you pick the car up - that way you can tick them off as you go and not miss anything.

Re stuff to check - as the others said (re maps DVD - make sure it is the latest version, even though you can get it here!).

Only thing I would add is check the paint . . . I found 2 small nicks in the paint (middle of the roof near the tailgate, go figure) after driving a couple of km to get the tint done! Nothing major (couple of mm each, shallow) but . . .

Once you leave the dealer it can be hard to argue about what was there when you picked it up. All too easy to get excited and not go through your list. I had a check-list (but did not have paint as part of it - live and learn!)

And don't forget the insurance! A cover note should suffice for the pickup, and you can then decide later which insurer you want to go with.

Unless your vehicle is under finance, they will need a certificate of currency.

Very unusual as my Dealer insisted on a Bank cheque for both cars. I offered cash in a brown bag but no a Bank Cheque thanks

I can understand why some dealers might not like bank cheques as they have been forged in the past and maybe the particular dealer was stung. I paid my deposit by using the finance guys computer to bank transfer and print out the receipt for him right there and then. They were happy with that.
