  • How long can it possibly take??

    Hi all,
2nd post so please be gentle.
Just decided to bite the bullet on a Tungsten Silver Alltrack in standard config. Being in Hobart there is only one VW dealer and the only other one is 400 km away. The local dealer had been working hard to get my business and were very helpful on test drives and info. They were ok to deal with on price and we struck a deal that I was happy with. Right up until I paid the deposit I kept checking on availability as the dealer at the other end of the state was adamant they couldn't provide a vehicle until July. After many emails and phone calls the dealer principal confirmed the availability in 8 weeks. They had sourced a car already on the water from another dealer. Beauty I paid the deposit on Tuesday and was ready to wait patiently for a vin number and tracking details.

This morning the northern dealer rang me to say they could source a vehicle and supply in 8 weeks. I said I had already committed to the local dealer as the small difference in price wasn't enough for making the trip north to pick the vehicle up and then have to travel to deal with any potential warranty problems. Happy with my decision I settled in to wait.

Unfortunately the local dealer rang late this afternoon to say that they were unable to source the car as planned and the earliest I could expect on was August. After much apologies and offers of a loaner car from mid April until the new one arrives I was also offered my deposit back. I was gutted and said I would call back tomorrow when I had decided what to do.

Is a six month wait reasonable? How long have others had to wait? Anybody got an experiences of seeking warranty assistance from a dealer other than where you bought your VW?

Any and all comment greatly appreciated.

Who are you dealing with at Jackson's? I worked with laurie. there where issues mainly caused by vag hq but he tried to please the whole way through. the blonde chick manger is all nice up untill it goes pair shaped and can be a pain if its not going her way. Beware of gowns they can promise and not deliver. I nearly got a car from them that was "on the floor" according to the salesman but was in fact still in transit 8 weeks off.
Some people waited over a year for polos and its not just vw, try and get a brz/86. A friend just orded a forester and was told 4-5 months because they want every option. Your lucky they offered deposit back or loan car cause I got jack all when I was delayed.
There is another VW in Launceston but its Jackson's as well. Don't give up as you won't be disappointed by the car. Being in tassie dosnt help. Go around to skoda and tell me how many skoda Octavia's or superb. You won't raise a finger.

The offer of a loaner car sweetens the deal - a bunch of guys ordering Golf R's had to wait over 12 months without that. If the car is special enough to you compared to alternatives then it may be worth the wait.
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

6 months isn't unreasonable, I waited 7 for the Passat.

Pity fellas, I walked into a Perth dealer on the weekend and they had a tungsten silver on the floor, and after doing the deal the one for me is still wrapped up in the holding yard. Was not looking forward to a protracted wait so forgave the sports pack for supply now.
Looking forward to all the features that were $$$$ when I bought my B6 Passat back in 08.

Looks like it doesn't take as long as I thought. Just had a call from the dealer to say they have secured me a Tungsten Silver Alltrack. Apparently it is on the ANIARA just having left Durban and due to arrive early April. I have the vin. Can anybody tell me how to track it??

Here now!!! Got a call from Laurie at Jacksons to say my car had arrived and would I like to check it out prior to pre delivery. It looks great and pickup will be next Friday. It actually ended up taking less time than the original estimate. You can't complain about that!

3 weeks the dealer tells me it will take from undocking (which was on 21-04) to our pick up. Of which only 5 days is dealer prep. 16 days the guvmint (customs and what not) need to pull their fingers out long enough handwave the car through.

In the meantime the vehicle sits in the healthy salty air of Melbourne port. I hope it has a thick layer of protective coating all over.

                        Argh!

Ok. My all track is safely parked in the garage. That was a bit nerve wracking with all the parking sensors going off at one. The car was immaculately presented and I had a full run down from sales and service staff. I must have been overwhelmed - missed how to adjust the mirrors and the manual is less than helpful. Any suggestions anyone?

The knob in front of the window switches - twist to select L or R: then use like a joystick

Thanks for that . It didn't click to use the knob as a joystick.
