Sounds like a lottery with the engines considering they have same build date.

The wait was painful, but worth it in the end as it is a very enjoyable car to drive. The amount of get up and go it has is incredible, especially considering I still have to drive it conservatively whilst running it in.

Curious has your dealer booked you in for a 1500km service or are they just leaving it until 15k service. Ours has us booked in, but say its just more an inspection rather than any actual service.

Well hopefully you continue enjoying your Passat as much as you currently are, as I am sure we are going to enjoy ours

I had expected it to take longer after hearing the stories of how many cars come delivered with free swirls in the paint etc.

Full credit to the dealership as it was immaculate, but I still polished it which probably only made a 5-10% improvement in gloss, though as I was sealing it with nanolex and it is suppose to last 12mths+ I wanted to ensure it looked as good as I could get it prior to sealing it.

Very happy with finish, I am sure a pro detailer would have completed what I did quicker and probably better, though the feeling of completing it myself was much more satisfying. Possibly more expensive as I think I spent close to $1200 buying a karcher, foam lance, RO polisher and all the chemicals you could ever imagine now to ensure he wife never sees this post

          $1200??? Oh Emm Gee!

And here, after talking to her, wife already asked whether it's worth doing mucking about with the pain sealant for a vehicle that we will actually be using in a rough-ish country setting, for a car we'll actually have 10+ years with no immediate eye on re-selling it.

I daresay I could have called Mr Detail and gotten a quote significantly under that amount.

The good thing is I will have those tools for life which is where that initial cost will eventually become more reasonable.

Secondly I know what products were used and also know they where applied to product specs. I also have that much product left over I think I will do our second car (craptiva) as well and still have plenty for next 2-3 years worth of recoating.

So that cost soon becomes considerably cheaper than a detailer. As my wife says, I suffer OCD and a of lack patience, so I purchased everything instantly, instead of over time like most normal people would.

How frequently do you think you'll do that, though? Nanolex on their website advertises that a properly/professionally applied coat will last 2(!) years.

Mr Detail state they use Nanolex - I'll see what the quote request I sent them comes back with. If it's $5-600, then yeah, you'll be in the money easily over the lifetime of the car!

Maybe I'll just rent the hardware from you and then only buy the consumables!

                  Hi Toto
I was unsure of the servicing as the manual gave me the impression that the first service could be as late as 2 years or 60,000 Km!!!
I phoned the dealer and they told me 15,000km (which I subsequently found out is also what the service sticker says).
I assume from what I've read in the manual that provided the correct oil is used the car itself will tell me when the following service is due.

                  PHA
MY 13 B7 TDi Highline, Electric Seats, Driver Assistance and Visibility Package, Adaptive Cruise Control, one of the last 125kw cars brought into the country

15000k on mine was what it said. Have only done 12000 in 20 months and service light hasnt come on yet I gave it the 15,000k service after 12 months at about 8,000k Long life servicing is not applicable to Australia as per another thread on here yesterday
