      Hi all,

I have a blue R36 sedan and haven't done anything with it in almost 2 years. I heard a CAI would be worth while for throttle response. Anyone done one yet or can recommend a trusted mechanic to do one?

Just putting some Michelin PS3's on soon and looking forward to the difference with the stock CSC3s

Anyone know a good place to upgrade the audio? I have all options except the dynaudio.

Hi UG1 - always good to see more R36 owners!!!

As you may have already read, I am looking at doing a few things to my R36 as well. After looking into what can be done I have decided not to do things like CAI and ECU tune. The reason for this is that the power gains are very small for the $$$. One thing to be careful of if going down the CAI path - don't get a cheap one - there are many examples of people losing power with cheap ones.

For me, the first thing that needs to be done is the exhaust note - its too quiet stock (even compared to R32). A nice cat-back shouuld fix this. Then I am just thinking about a set of coilovers and 19" wheels.

As far as audio goes, I have Dynaudio in mine so I haven't looked down this path. However, I have used MetroSound at Artarmon before and they were good. Speak to Hutch.

You should also try and come along to a VW meet at some point - would be nice to see another R36 there.

Hi thanks for the reply... yeah I got ridiculous quotes for CAI and ECU tune and the supersprint exhaust
$1490 for the Grupp M CAI seems to be standard
best quote for ECU tune was from Ramspeed (Kraftwerks) at $1150
and about $3000 for the supersprint cat back

would anyone be interested in a group deal?

CRD were the biggest rip off by far

I think I will just put a better panel air filter in for now lol

My R36 will be a boring stock standard blue sedan. Not much to look at but it would be interesting to check out others

Yeh a quad exhaust would be cool. When I get my cat-back done I am sticking with duals, but I will go for 4" tips to fill out the stock cut-out a bit better.

Yeh a lot of the mod's for the R36 are quite expensive (if you want quality). I think the car doesn't need terribly much done to it - that's why i just want to get it sounding right, sitting right and rolling on a nice set of wheels.

Don't be worried about having a stock standard car - mine is the same at the moment. The good part about the meets is that you can speak to people who have already done things to their cars and get a bit of feedback. You can also get an idea of where is best to get things done. Plus its good fun and you will meet some nice people.

Really? I can't take off without people immediately turning their heads and looking. Loud enough for me! Haha. I came from one of those Lancer Coupes with a non-cannon exhaust system (which was loud) and people stare at me more now than before.

The only changes I'd consider are swapping my RCD510 unit out for the RNS510 (or equivalent) and adding a shark-fin antenna because I've found radio reception really lacking with my R36.

..oh and maybe some more rags to clean my exhausts every time I get home after a drive. Gets dirty so quickly!

Don't forget that DNA Tuning have a tune for the R36 engine. They are a sponsor on this forum and they have a thread in their area with details on the R36 tune. Cost is around $800.

I have a DNA tune on my Golf R and it rocks, excellent bank for your buck.

Each to their own I guess....for me - it needs to be louder. Have you ever stood behind one when it takes off - it's surprising how quiet it is - I didn't believe it till I did it. I have heard a few with cat-back exhausts and the sound is perfect – a really great note – it almost sounds a little like a V8. I know I have had to be careful when choosing which one I will go with as some of them have been described as too loud or have drone tendencies.

I think you would have to admit when compared with the Golf R32 or R, or even cars like a BMW 335i – the R36 is noticeably quieter. My mate has a Golf R and when we take off together at the lights the R drowns out the R36.
