BiXenon Headlights - Passat MY12

Update. Looks like the bulb might throw intermittent error because
The bulb is rated only 5w compare to our 16w backup light.
If you can live with it popping up once in a while it's fine.
If not I suggest just use it as park light as its meant to be.

The EBayer has kindly offered a refund due to a misunderstanding, so I am sending them back.
I must make this clear, do not use these as reverse lights as they do not work and the Ebayer has stated that he will not offer a refund for incorrect use.Last edited by Lance B; 07-08-2012, 11:39 AM.

Just after I topped a crest at highway speed, the b-gg-r was there on the road, just sitting in the lane I was driving in, I swerved to avoid it (while trying not to do a head-on with on-coming traffic!) and it did not help that it jumped across the road right in front of the car (same direction I swerved) . . . instead of doing the sensible thing and going the other way!
Took out the left light and front corner.
Almost makes you want to weep . . . yes, there was a bi-xenon there
Next day - did not realise it was this big, it looked smaller when I topped the crest and saw it in my lights!
The wagon handled it very well, no fuss, barely felt the hit and only heard a dull thud. The damage is only to the front left corner, engine/transmission and chassis not affected. One of the safest cars that I have had the privilege to drive - definitely a very big thumbs up for safety and handling in the Passat wagon!
Wagon is with the repairers - will be at least 2-3 weeks before I get it back (some parts have to come from Germany). My insurance has been great!MY12.5 B7 Passat Wagon : : TDI Highline : : Icelandic Grey : : black leather interior

Bugger!
I almost had 2 incidents with wallabies when i went out to Carnarvon Gorge.
You are correct in that they are stupid and will actually jump into the path of the car rather than away from the large/noisey/scary/bright/fast moving object.

Ouch... feel you pain... been there
I have hit three in my kangaroo harvesting career, the worst was about the same damage like yours (picked up my Forester XT turbo on a monday, drove to the in-laws farm that Friday night, Skippy snotted the kerbside front before the top of Browns mountain).
In every case it has bounded onto the road, jinked away from me, so now in-front heading away from me, giving me the oportunity to swerve to pass beside it (no one on the Monaro at that hour) but it always turns straight across me in the direction I have swerved away from it... dumb farce animal!
ummm..., at least it wasn't a wombat.... does that help any? nah probably not....

What is most annoying is that beastie clearly had a death wish - it aimed for where the car was going to be and went straight for it!
I wouldn't mind it doing that, if I was driving a truck with a big bull-bar.
Re wombat - no thanks! Hitting a 40-60 kg rock solid 'walking beer-barrel' that low at 100 km/hr does not bear thinking about . . .
Strange thing is - I saw at least 10 times more dead roos on the side of the road between Sydney and Wagga that I did between Wagga and Adelaide (twice the distance). That is both going there and coming back. Must be the extra traffic on the Hume and the roo cleaning service offered by semis and B-doubles at night.

Got the car back . . . took longer than planned (it seems that VW did not have a straight bonnet in the country and also they delivered a faulty bi-xenon that took a while to figure out why it was not working!).
Installed the LED reverse lights and I too get the odd light error on the MFD/dash but this disappears after a while on its own accord (or pretty much straight away when I put the car in reverse). This is more annoying than a deal breaker for me and can be lived with.
The brightness is definitely improved - took some pics using a light meter app with the same settings for both shots (tried to get the same distance for easier comparison):
Will see how it goes . . . next is to get some LED's for the side turn lights (which are very faint compared to the bi-xenon main beams and way too yellow . . .).MY12.5 B7 Passat Wagon : : TDI Highline : : Icelandic Grey : : black leather interior

This is the nearest applicable topic.
Would these:
Passat OEM Bi- Xenon + Dynamic Headlights 3AC941043 + 3AC941044 - for UK and RHD markets
retrofit bi-xenons to B7 passat RHD
but you'd have to also purchase this:
Auto-Leveling Headlights - Retrofit - VW Passat B7 - without electronic shock absorber-
which is a self-levelling kit for passat with or without 4-motion (4-motion one for alltrack) and without electronic dampers.
At that point you'd have spent over $2000, without installation, and be lacking the required headlamp washing?
Alternatively perhaps these guys:
VW Passat B7(3AA) Xenonscheinwerfer Satz komplett,Bi-Xenon,LED,Kurvenlicht, | eBay
can sell the same kit but for RHD, for a similar price..
I'm just curious. It is nice to know the current OEM conversion cost..

Those lights that carsystems are selling are on there because I requested them. They are the Dynamic light assist version but I am yet to install them and figure out how to code the computer. I will at some point but I have factory xenon.
