    Hi Brycem

I took the car to Bryan Byrt VW service, Mansfield. Hope to get back to the service manager for a chat in the next few days.

Today, I constructed a patented "VW Climate Control Regulator" - essentially a small cardboard box 70x40mm which on its top has 2 layers of window tint film. I sat the box on top of the IR sensor in the middle of the dash and went for a drive. Set the Climatronic on Auto at 24 degrees and went for a drive in very bright sunshine with outside temperature of 21 - 22 degrees. The Climatronic worked very well indeed with the fan on 2 bars and a gentle amount of air coming through the front vents. I lowered the Auto setting to 23 degrees and it again worked well. My next test (hopefully tomorrow morning if bright and sunny) is to go for a drive when the outside temperature is about 17 degrees and see how it performs. For a car of its expense and technology, VW should have a software modification suitable for our climatic conditions.

Silly question, new to this site, how do I send a PM to buzki?

    Regards
    Matt

He's posted in a few Climatronic/air con threads in the Passat section lately.

When you spot one of his posts, click on his name, and there'll be an option to PM him.

I had to stop using the aircon in my car..the smell is now unbearable. Its like a vinegar smell..sometimes smells like rotten fish left utside for days.

Anyone found a fix for this? I tried using Glen20 spray but only lasted one day then the smell went back again.

Anyone from Sydney that can help?

My car has been in twice now (about to go back the 3rd time) for bad smell in the air con. I can't even use it right now.

First time they just ran a deodorizer/antibacterial treatment through. Smell returned next day.

Second time they did the treatment again after removing some leaves from the air intake. Changed air filters. Smell returned next day.

I'm sending it back a 3rd time and I've been pretty clear that I don't want them to do the same thing again. I want it ripped apart and fixed. My wife's about to give birth and the last thing I need is a car which has no climate control and constantly needs to return to the dealer to be repaired.

            Not very pleased about it...

Mate something you should look at. I had a similar problem in another car once where a gecko had crawled into the fresh air intake from outside and next time a started the car he went through the fan blades of the Aircon unit. Terrible smell, had to take it all apart and give good clean out to get rid of guts and stuff. In took maybe 8-12 months to get the smell out from what I couldn't get. Needed for it to decompose etc naturally.

                Hi,

does anyone know the part number for this??? I bought the pollen filter but it looks all white and not charcoal. Is there another version of the filter?

I have also attached a very good link to show how its done.

Ok I have swapped the filter with the correct charcoal type one.
Hope this fixes the smell. If it doesn't what else should I fix or replace?

can you see if you can trace the drain? ie make sure that isn't partially blocked leading to stagnant water... otherwise the lizard thing may be worth investigating...

From the tube you posted, you have a garage too... so it is not like bats or possums are taking a leak on your plenum... (the stuff I have hosed off my car in the morning... )

Right, visit #3 and they've flushed it out again, lots of antibacterial treatment, new pollen filter installed.

No charge and they gave me a courtesy car for the day at no cost as well.

Still smells a tiny bit when I first turn it on but I'm hoping it might go away with continued use. At least for the time being, I can finally use my Air Conditioning again.

Got to say, Barloworld Five Dock have actually been absolutely fantastic in regards to service despite the problem being a little difficult to fix. It really does help that I don't need to argue with them over this. They've rotated my wheels for free and didn't charge me a cent for the courtesy vehicles or new pollen filter. Now, I just hope the problem doesn't return!

I changed mine myself with new polen filter
And seems to have fixed the issue cost me almost $40
But saved me time from going to the dealership. I'm happy now no more

You replaced yours with the carbon type, right? If so, what was the part number and where did you purchase?

                          Thank you

I bought mine from five dock vw. Costs only less than $40 for the charcoal type.

Bought the carbon activated filter today from VW Five Dock, was $33 from memory which isn't bad for a genuine part.

Sure enough - smell is gone. I don't think they did actually change the filter as reported either because it was still filthy when I pulled it out and I haven't driven the car in the last week enough for that much build up. Gotta wonder why they didn't tell me to pay for one of these filters in the first place? Oh well... see how it goes but so far so good.

Any solid resolution on the overactive Climatic? I have a 2011 V6 Wagon and it's super cold even when set on 24... Also I have vinegar in the pollen filter...
