Another call from the dealer today explaining the luxury car tax increase and so on. Basically, if we can't have the car by July 1 we'll just pay for it earlier and take delivery later. Easy. She does expect us to have it by then, though, and hasn't heard anything more about VW about holding the car back.
Unfortunately, several hundred Passat wagons are missing the reversing camera they are supposed to have. Ours is one of them, and we were given the option of getting out deposit back and cancelling the order, reordering and waiting until the car is built in August, or accepting the car with a $500 refund and the expectation and retrofit will be made available.
I asked if she could hunt around for an R36 (any colour) with RNS510, Dynaudio, auto tailgate, and so on... but there aren't any unallocated on their way.
So, we went with the last option - the $500 refund and eventual retrofit.
Hmm, not sure about paying for it before taking delivery. Thats asking for a lot of trust. As for the reversing camera....wtf? Hope mine's fitted with it......its off the coast of Sth Africa atm. How'd they find out it wasn't fitted?
Well with the RNS being so new I'm not surprised however its a bit disappointing VW would stuff up like that. They prob had some delivery/manufacturing issue and decided to proceed with the install and not delay production.

Sorry VW, you make great cars but until you improve your customers' experiences you will lose customers
mine is due to be built next week (wk 21) and was ordered with reversing camera, dynaudio, sunroof & auto tailgate so I hope they do actually fit all of the options or I'll be really

Found out today my R36 sedan is being built as we speak. Scheduled arrival date in Australia is July 22. I'm told it take 3 weeks to "prepare the car", so I'm on track for a mid-August delivery.

Hi Iain,
I guess the pressing question is whether VWA is going to allow the release of cars if they arrive in Australia prior to the scheduled formal launch date (which is when?).
I have just got home from work and got a little package in the main, the most interesting part of it is the Volkswagen Price List April 2008.
In this it has the R36 listed with the RNS510 with RVC & Dynaudio & changer all as standard equipment....The optional stuff is Leather Upholstery with electric drivers seat $2,990, New York 18" wheels $790, Off-Road Technology $750, Anti Theft alarm $1,990.
Either VW have made a massiv stuff up in printing or we are all in for a BIG surprise come delivery day.....
That sounds like a screw up to me - the R36 should have electric/memory front seats and an alarm as standard - they're both part of the reason I ordered one.
Also, off road technology... on an R36. What? Sure they didn't mean R50?
None of that makes sense. Somebody must have screwed up... none of those options are anything like the options on the German R36's, or what I ordered, or what what was shown at the motor show. Weird!
