R36...pre-ordered!!!

Hi everyone, first post on these forums having just found this thread on the R36.

I pre-ordered my R36 Wagon at the beginning of April with the following spec:
Blue (shock horror)
Sunroof
Sat-Nav
Dynaudio
Auto tailgate.

At the time I ordered they suggested a late August delivery so I'm going to be very keen to see how long it takes everyone to get their cars.

I currently drive an A3 Sportback 2.0T with DSG and needed something bigger for family reasons and the performance engines for the new A4 Avant won't be here until mid-next year, so the R36 stood out as a clear winner.

I just received an email from my dealer saying the car is a week 21 build and will arrive sometime in August.

However, he also mentioned that VWA have told them the official launch date for the R36 will be at the end of August and that all cars will be witheld until then.

Nup, mine's telling me I'll be driving it early July. It doesn't make sense to hold off the cars till launch. What would be logical and ultimately more cost effective is to bring forward the launch. VWA also read these forums so lets hope common sense prevails.

I wont get mine before October anyway. So I will sit back and congrat those who would get it before the official launch date.

got further update from my Dealer yesturday that the car will arrive beginning of June and they are very confident that they will have me in it before July. Pretty happy since I only ordered a month ago. However I did get them to go through the computer tell me what was available and I selected my car from that. Asked them yesturday what other cars are available in this shipment and they just laughed and said nothing. Only thing that would throw a spanner in the works is the car being held by VWA. I would think it to be a very silly thing to do considering the backlash that they would get from people who have placed an order. I for one will be very vocal.

rwk so your'e going from the 125kw diesel in June for a while to the R36 in oct / Nov? assume to late to cancel the diesel and you need a car? Nice choice.

Both, one for my wife and one for myself

The TDI will arrive Fremantle next Wednesday. Most likely end of May delivery. The other one is still an unknown.....

My first post after finding this forum...
Well, like many others I pre-ordered my R36 (+ all additional options) a few months back, and have been told to expect it to roll off the ship in July with an early August delivery date. Not a problem really as my lease expires in October (XR6T) so timing is good. Was wondering if anyone had a really good finance company to recommend? As we are all aware there are a hell of a lot of finance sharks out there, and I'd prefer to get a recommendation if anyone has one? I'm in Sydney on the North Shore btw.

Do any of you have insight into how launch control works on the R36? Does the engine rev up to a predetermined limit or is it up to the driver to control this? Are there any undersireable side effects (wear and tear on the gearbox?etc...) ........other than a potential speeding fine?

If it's like the GTI it won't rev above a certain level - controlled by the computer. I don't think there are any major side effects - I haven't heard of a "suggested" use frequency or anything else like some exotics have.

Also, I've been trawling around the internet trying to find a road test or a video or something, but haven't had any luck yet. Surely we can't be too far away from one...
