It could be because you placed your order more recently compared to some of our orders being placed much earlier in the year or even last year. The July delivery is the first batch of cars arriving in Oz....

We should organise a drive day.....

Too much rumors around, so I rang up VWA and clarifed just then. I been told the following. The order tracking system just giving the dealer the progress of the car in the factory. It doesnt necessary mean it will get shipped across once its been built. Even your car has been built and ready to ship, they need PERMISSION from VW Australia in order to ship it into Australia unless the vehicle is for an exhibition purpose. The first shipment for the Passat R36 is confirmed in late October and this date is very unlikely to be changed.

So I guess the info by my VW dealer is correct.

      Hope this is clear.

        Just got an email back from Audi today;
"...new avants we should see them in August/September 2008 the engine variants at launch we believe should be the 1.8T an the 2.0TDi. We should hopefully then follow with other variants but not sure which will be coming to Australia yet, there are talks of the 3.0TDi quattro will be coming when I'm not sure."

1.8T and 2.0TDi just isn't gonna cut it...tho the 3.0TDi quattro on the otherhand....

I agree, the new shape A4 looks great...

        • Hmm wonder if the 3.0TDi is confirmed for Oz. Would be a great engine plus the added benefit of fuel efficiency.....only gripe would be the exhaust note but given the brand's reputation it should be relatively smooth/quiet. Would be interesting to see how it performs and at what price point it comes in at. Being a top end model, it ain't gonna be cheap

As for delivery times for R36. We'll just have to wait and see.......it would seem extremely inefficient for VW to build a car in April and ship it in August. From a 'order to cash' and inventory cost perspective its certainly not reflective of a German brand (they're usually known for being super efficient).

One thing's for sure.....I'll drop a post (as I'm sure others will) after my first drive.

          • If it's the same three litre diesel used in the Q7, then it is already a great engine.

Dad's enormously heavy Q7 gets better economy on the highway than the GTI. Not bad at all...

            • Hi everyone,

Thought I would sign up, been following the thread for some time and put a deposit on an r36 Sedan last week. Apparently being built at the moment, with all these times flying around I dont know whether I should be excited or depressed.....if you call July excited.

Bare in mind this is coming from somone that almost canceled a previous car order cause it was gonna take 2 weeks, I get a little impatient. Guess I'm gonna learn alot.

              • I have been shown my Build and Ship dates by my dealer....My guess is that the first non pre order cars will arrive later in the year.

                • Anyone out there with the sports suspension fitted on a current Passat Variant? Just wondering what the experience is with clearance. Hopefully I can keep the scuffs and scratches to a minimum.

                        • Typical bloody Volkswagen, though. Sometimes it's hard to tell if they do, in fact, known their arse from their elbow.

It's interesting to see the various dates thrown around by dealers who should all be sourcing their information from the same place.

I still haven't heard from my dealer regarding the R36 build yet, though I might investigate tomorrow.

                          • Yeah I keep seeing all the dates get thrown around, hard to know which is actually correct. Although my dealer seemed pretty confident with his information, was even going to give the ship it was coming on. I guess time will tell and I am sure we will see a number of reports once people get their cars. So anyone in Sydney organising a cruise when they finally arrive?

                              • It's been almost 2 years since I've had a cruisable car, and with 25,000kms budgeted for just weekends I don't think I'll be doing anything but cruising when the car comes along
I'll be too busy driving to organise a cruise, but your more than welcome to tag along

The first weekend starts of with a track day at Wakefield on Friday to run it in, a drive down the Clyde to Batemans Bay, over to Bermagui, Tathra, Bega and up the Brown to Cooma, Jindabyne, Khancoban, Tumut, Gundagai, Goulburn, Taralga, Jenolan Caves and home via Bells Line.

Next weekend is a day trip around Southern Highlands, via National Park, Macquarie + Jambaroo Pass, Kangaroo Valley, Bowral.

Weekend after is time to go North, never really been up there before (apart from Putty and old Pac) I've been keenly looking at Oxley Hwy and Thunderbolts way on Google Maps, they look damn good so time for some exploring
