hahaha. at least i gave it a massive wrap. would have been a let down if i said crap things about it! i honestly can't fault the car.

I have had a few offers of that...

It's interesting to see that the R36 isn't expected to hit the UK until "summer 08" so I guess we won't be too far behind. It'll be interesting to see what Fifth Gear and Top Gear make of it.

Also, I had a quick look at the VW website for information about this on regular Passat wagons, but couldn't find anything. On Dad's Q7 there is a cargo blind thing that you can roll back and use to cover cargo that doesn't exceed a certain height. Is this available for the Passat? I regularly (OK, they haven't left my Commodore wagon for months) carry golf clubs around. It'd be good if I could keep them in the car but cover them up.

          Anyone know?

Funny you should ask ... Jeremy Clarkson's summary of the R36 was:

"It's a very strange beast ... a bit like your Granny saying ... Have another piece of cake, Vicar ... it's got cocaine in it."

Steve all regular Passat Wagons have a luggage blind and also cargo net as std.

Love the cargo net feature. Would be particularly useful to keep the dog safely in the cargo area during excessive launch/braking lololol.

soryr my bad its not actually a cargo net ie to restrain luggage, its more like a barrier between the load area and passenger area but its a net that pulls up from behind the rear set and hooks into the roof. Don't know if it would stop heavy items like a metal one. Still a useful feature though, along with the cargo blind. There are also tie down hooks in the cargo area as well.

                    • Sweet, thanks for that. I need to look at the PDF's on the Volkswagen website a bit more closely... it was right infront of me

                      • Anyone know how to access the 'more' link on the VW Aust. Website relating to the R36? When I click on it, I'm taken to a logon/password screen. Seems odd.

Also, those of you with current model Passats, could you give me an indication of the running costs pls (eg. avg service costs). I'm assuming the insurance and tyre costs for the R36 would be higher than the regular versions.

                        • I'm guessing tyres will be more expensive than those for the GTI and fuel consumption will be on par with the old Ecotech V6 enchines that Holden used to stick in the Commodore.

Servicing costs... don't go to a VW dealer

                          • I've already organised my budgets for the R36, and comparing the 3.2L Passat I previously had on order it's not too much more.
                            25,000km's a year
                            15L per 100km's Average @ $1.50 per litre
                            Tyres @ $2500 a set to replace every 25,000kms
                            Servicing @ $1000 per year.

I'm sure the servicing comes under $1k, but I am a bit worried about maintenance items such as brake pads, rotors, shocks, etc...

                            • Does anyone have any photos of the interior of the R36 from the BMS?
