Yep, That was the first thing I noticed with the chair after a few months of driving.

Can anyone that has had the right bolsters replaced shed some light on how the repair went? Do they actually replace the entire chair or is it they cut open that lower bolster area and add additional padding?

Going on the scribble i saw on my cars worksheet, it looks like they just replace the bolster (quote price was @ $260) can't imagine a whole seat for that price.

I guess GC0001 who got it done in the UK can shed more light on this though. I'm not impressed with the outcome though...
GC0001:"Took it to the dealers and it was repaired under warranty perfectly; 10k on and its just as bad as it was before...totally worn out. I think it needs a firmer foam."

      Cheers,

      Jayse.

Got the call on Thursday last week form McCarroll's, VWA have approved the warranty claim and the bits have been ordered.

Thanks for raising this as i had not even noticed (but was wondering each time i slid in and out) until i read this thread.
The drivers side is completely flat and can easily feel the hardware under the foam.
I have informed VW ( Norris Motors at Kedron Brisbane) and will be taking copies of this thread to prove teh point.
            Cheers...

                Hi
Not problems with getting the side bolster replaced under warranty for me. Only took about 3 days for the part to arrive. Getting it done Monday.
                Cheers

                  Any update on this?

Is VWA aware of the problem?

My R36 has 25K and the drivers side bolster has collapsed

Will take it to the dealer and see how i go in the new year.

They just replace the foam, and in my case the seat cover too as even though it seems to hold its shape the inside gets a nasty crease in it.

As I said it didn't last long. I'm going to replace it myself this time; the plastic trim will need to be removed from around the seat and then i'll know what I need to do.

The seat foam (its the full seat base) here is c£100, but the seat cover (just the base) is £745! I've managed to get one shipped for £33 off ebay.de so have a look on there should anyone want one. No-one is wearing out passenger side seats in mainland europe and this is what they are and sold off cheap- perfect as its our drivers side.

I'll report back once I do the job.

I had the same problem and brought it up with my dealer. They just took note of it but didn't do anything. I'm glad I never paid to have it fixed now that I see a few have had theirs sorted under warranty.

Took my '09 R36 Wagon to Camberwell VW to show the collapsed drivers seat bolster. They took some pics of it, and had it approved by VWA within the day. Ordered the part and had it repaired in a day also.
                          Seat feels fantastic now!

                              Folks, for the record:

                              Name: Wolfman
Driver seat problem: Yes - fully collapsed.
Passenger seat problem: Developing - slightly mushy at the moment.
Age of vehicle at occurrence: First noticed on driver's seat at age = 2 yrs.
                              Kms travelled at occurrence: 30,000.
Date of occurrence: Approx March 2011.
Issue raised with dealer: Yes at 45k svc.
Issue raised with VWA: No - not required.
Satisfactory resolution of problem: Yes - Driver side foam replaced under warranty. No questions asked. Passenger side not worthy of attention yet.
Expand: Note - VW Dealer Service suggested cause was the manner in which I get into and out of the car, but declined my invite to show proper entry and exit procedures. I have been trying to work out how to enter/exit without thigh pressure on bolster but I conclude this cannot be achieved by your average 2 legged homo sapien.

Recently had the car in at the local dealer for a faulty park brake switch and noted to them the collapsed bolster. Car is currently covered under the VW/Allianz extended warranty. Received a call back from the dealer advising that the switch is covered but Allianz state that collapsed bolster is wear and tear. Anyone have this replaced under there extended warranty. Dealer quoted $350 per seat to replace.
