Resale on the Passat - any experience?

    my thoughts exactly, i was offered $18,000 for 2011 1.8l turbo TSI wagon with 43,000 kms.
    i laughed at the guy and said no deal, but he doesnt stop calling me
    he doesnt quite understand NO DEAL.

    i might just keep it for a while longer if i have no luck in the coming weeks.

      Far out mine is 07 103kw wagon only sunroof and leather only done 82000 think I will be keeping for a while surely do much better on private sale

        R36's are in the 18-20k range for trade. wanted to suss out trading for a small car for my missus.. at that price didn't want to downgrade.

        To the guy wanting an Atenza Mazda 6, don't bother. Owned one for 4 months and sold it. bought it brand spankers and it was a dog of a car. Made me regret trading my CC for it.
        Funny that at the time, an 09 CC was pulling mid 20's for trade, whilst a highline Passat sedan diesel would have pulled early 30s in a trade.
        Loved getting back into VAG after the Mazda, so easy and no worries of new tech.

          Crikey mate - selling a top spec Mazda6 after 4 months?! Sure it wasn't a lemon?! What exactly didn't you like about it. I'm most curious to know.

          I actually didn't bother with a Mazda6 in the end as per previous posts, was not happy with the inflexibility of Mazda dealers who are intent on exploiting their lucrative Australian market. (They sure ain't doing this well anywhere else in the world!) Much happier with VW dealers. Just over a year since I traded in the MY11 TDI Passat for my current MY13 TDI with Sports Pack and my only gripe is an annoying rattle emanating from the ignition barrel. Mentioned this at its first major service and not only will it be fixed in a few weeks, but they also brought up the need for some lubricant to be added to the steering wheel.

          But seriously, shame about the Mazda6, Dark RS. I had a second gen one a few years back which was a treat to drive and it did what it did really well given it was relatively low tech.

          I'm actually hanging out for the B8 Passat. Should be previewed overseas in September and perhaps we'll see it on Australian shores April/May 2015?

          Resale value? Not all VW vehicles are unreliable or death traps. This is pure sensationalist nonsense and it's really unethical of car dealers to use this as an excuse to low ball the value of VW cars and exploit the seller. A lot of car manufacturers have problems. To be sure, VW handled the PR side badly and should have responded with alacrity to customer complaints, but there seems to me to be a class subtext at work in all this VW bashing. Going private and selling to a VW aficionado is one's best bet. If private sale isn't one's thing, trade-in at a VW dealer for another VW!

            Or keep longer mine is one year our of extended warranty and due shortly for a timing belt change. Looking at the 2nd hand prices just going to keep mine until it becomes uneconomic. Touch wood have had no issues since out of warranty and what else can you get for the same price with that level of equipment and safety?

              im talking more about your bread and butter passats TSI TDI etc..

                Yes, I know that but I may not have mentioned on my post.
                Regardless though in my opinion the damage has been done from my experience dealing with dealers and private sales.
                The media was ruthless and the public on the forums not this one but more so on car advice, drive, whirlpool, cars guide etc.. Gave VW a good thrashing.

                Vw need to build its reputation back by offering extending warranty showing faith in their product.
                For now I will keep my car because like I said I believe it's too good a car to give it away at those prices.

                I was in the same position as one of the above posters, trading in the car for a new mazda3 for the mrs...
                We then enquired with VW Themselves on a golf and they were no better with the trade in.
                So she will have to make do with her current car or drive my passat which she thinks it's too big.

                    It has worked for Hyundai and Kia, raising their perceived reliability from sub par to being on equal footing as most Japanese marques.

                    VW should be more vocal in backing their products with, for example a temporary or permanent extended warranty to 5 years and DSG to 10 yrs/150,000 kms.

                    That should keep the critics quiet.

                      ****e quality. stop start was a joke, the nav was glitchy, kept burning oil / pre delivery whatever long after being run in.
                      Just overall was let down by the car.

                      The service schedule was a joke, after sales service non existent..

                      Much happier with the Amarok. Albeit less luxury than my old CC.

                      But overall, the r36 is by far my personal favourite. What other car can take on an R8 hsv and come out on top
