Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Quick question though; what is your Build Date (not compliance date) of your Passat?
As for the injectors, VW offers a 2yr warranty on Genuine Parts from the date of purchase / repair. So you should be right for some time...

I own a MY08 Golf GT Diesel ...so far two injectors have failed....the car has been tow trucked twice ... the second incident happened on tuesday no warning just died. The wiring loom was replaced last time it occured... The warranty runs out in July...very annoying and embarrising. I rang Volkswagen ...but they said nothing. I have asked the dealer to replace all the injectors.... I am going to take out the extended warranty...though the car is leased I intend to buy it for my wife. IF this is a common problem that it seems Volkswagen should recall and correct the problem on all cars ...1000 plus dollars on injectors aren't cheap and it does not seem fair you may end up being charged for their design fault.

Why would they only replace single injectors? On my car they replaced the entire set under warranty. You should demand they do the set while still under warranty
I too will be getting the VW extended warranty as I plan on keeping the car at least 12 months past the end of the std warranty.MY12 Volvo V60 T5 Tekink in Ice WhiteMY08 125Kw TDI DSG Wagon in Mocca (02/08 - 03/12)

OK, here is how my Passat has gone from great to a worry in one month. Firstly the electric handbrake started playing up, and got to the point where it either flashed on/off for an entire journey (friggen annoying), or was stuck on and refusing to let go. I had to leave for five minutes before I could get it off, now have red tape covering the button so I don't use it! I booked it in for a 60K service last week so could live with it, mind you needed to wait until 11/2!
Now this afternoon driving to an appointment on the Mitchell Fwy (Perth), the car went beep, lost all power and had to navigate across 3 lanes to the emergency lane, trying to miss others who were trying to work out what was going on! I had the "coil" warning illuminated and the "Engine Fault - seek help!" message on the MFD. Turned it off, then restarted, drove fine for the rest of the journey (20km). Given the news above I can see its only a matter of time before it fails again.
So tomorrow I will call other dealers in Perth as Osborne Pk VW have no room until the 11th. I will insist on a full injector replacement with wiring loom based on the preceding posts....this is why these forums are so valuable, it saves us getting bulls%^t from service people!WestOiler125

Let us all know how you get on, ludicrous there isn't a recall on the Passats at least. If I owned a Passat nearing the end of it's warranty, and wasn't going to take the extended, I'd be approaching my dealer and putting it on them to get this fixed. I'm half considering it in the much less likely GT!2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

Why do you say less likely, Greg?
I'd be thinking that there are simply more 125kW PD Passats than Golf V GTs on the roads.Resident grumpy old fart

This sounds eerily similar to our experience. On Sunday (two days ago), we were driving along a freeway, when our car lost all power, and we had to cut across four lanes as we dodged other cars, with the diesel engine "coil" warning also illuminating.
We have a 2007 Passat which we bought privately ONE WEEK ago. It has done 104,000 and is now four years old, and from my understanding, we have no recourse. We have had it assessed and discovered - lo and behold - that it is injector number three that has "an electrical fault" and we are now being advised to replace all of them.
Unfortunately, unlike the majority of people in this thread, we have no cover from warrantee, and the quote for one has come in at $1800, and for all four at $4700.
Do we do all of them?
Do we do the wiring loom too? (by the looks of this thread, yes)
Do we have a case to present to VW Australia, given that there are a frightening number of people with the same problem, and that this is a fault that seems to be inherent in the design?
Do we cut our losses, fix one, sell it, and buy a more reliable, less expensive, Japanese car...

An update...
I got some advise from a friend who works for customer relations at a large car company. He said that if you approach them, even though your car is out of warranty by a year, because it has only had one owner before, and a full VW service history, they may offer something under good will.
Today, there was approval for 70% of the payment from VW Australia, for replacement of all four injectors, and the wiring loom.
Take home message: If you have this problem, even if it doesn't seem like you'll get anywhere, go to VW Australia. But do it through your dealer, they prefer to speak to them rather than directly to you.

Ive done a few on the BKP motors, in fact more so than the rest. Out of all the passats ive worked on( LOTTTTTTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSS) ive only done a handful. In fact im in the market to buy a PD Passat , but suppose the labour cost will be saved, oh and full retail
Just to clarify guys so far its only the PD unit injectors, not Common rail.
Cheers
