I would consider a 5 cylinder turbo, depending on what it sounds like, but if the R36 goes 4 cylinder like the Golf did then I'm definitely off to another marque.

I have been thinking for months the 2.5 turbo 5 would be a great engine for the new R, shame they don't bring back a VR5 or 2.8 VR6 and turbo it though!!!
The 3.6 VR6 had one of the best sounding exhaust notes I've ever heard on a atmo V6, not to mention one of the flattest torque curves, lets hope its an easy swap to the R36 exhaust on the new Passat. However, if it sounds anything like the CC or 3.6 superb it will be passable. I'm sure the force fed off balance 5 should sound chunky though, won't burble like the VR6 but should be ok.
I also thought about the supercharged 3.8 6 cyl, but then realised that's out as it doesn't fit in the Passat's engine bay, hence the VR6!
