  • RNS-510 Region Free and Play Dvd while car is in motion

Does anyone know how to make the RNS-510 Region Free so it plays all sorts of DVDs?

Also (and I know it's not legal) does anyone know how to make the RNS510 play DVDs while the car is in motion?

Pretty sure you can't do that. You can change regions via VAGCOM but not so it's region free.

You're right, it is illegal and distracting. My TV tuner in my last car worked which was good for me on a Saturday night after a few beers and the Mrs was driving me home as I could still watch the footy, but I don't think I'd bother doing it again. Anyway, this is probably what you're after. Pretty sure it's not something that can be done through VAGCOM like in an Audi.

I just found that the hack actually works!

Insert DVD and play. Then pressing the 'i' button then 'Tone' button.

Would be good for a long trip i'm planning with the family. Good thing it disables when you press anything so you just hack it when needed.
I know its illegal but nice to have.

      I have a 09 r36 sedan but donn't know the version sorry.

The Pioneer in our Multivan is a little odd, it has a "safe mode" which when on means you can't watch video while moving or enter new destinations on the nav or dial a phone number...

But you can go through the phone book to dial a number or enter an address... which is sort of odd since I think that is more distracting.

Anyway, on the first menu screen there is a BIG button that toggles safe mode on and off So turning it off lifts all restrictions including video... sure once it's on you need to pull over to turn it off again, but there is nothing to stop you just leaving it off (which we do). We don't use it for video while driving, we do use it so you can enter new destinations while driving (usually the passenger).

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Is the "i" button, the one next to the eject button, that is now a Star button? that is the voice control button on newer versions.

just went to try this hack and yeah - works perfectly - only thing now I've just realised (after having the car a year and half) that my RNS is locked to Region 2 - no region 4 discs play in it - so another thing to add to the list at next service...

Yes, the 'i' button next to the eject button on the dash. I only got the star on the steering wheel controls.

I tried with a burned copy of a DVD movie. Removed the region for the copy and it works fine.

yeah, but I'm not going to decode and burn DVD's just so they can play in a DVD player in a car sold in a country that is region 4.

Anyway, the little bloke isn't too fussed with watching TV in the car (finds spotting the taxi and looking at the needles on the dash move a lot more interesting!!) so can wait until next service to get them to hook the VAG-COM up to fix it.

Has anyone had any luck with the dvd in motion trick on cars that have been delivered to Australia within the past couple of months? I can't seem to get it to work on my new golf R with rns510

I haven't checked what firmware it is running.

I found that out as well with my car, got them to code it to region 4 on the 1,500 service.

My Passat CC has similar issues with the * and TONE buttons not letting me watch DVDs while the car is moving. Is there another hack?

Awesome trick!!! works perfectly. But my car is not new so yeah...

Ps. It didn't work the first time, you have to press the tone button split second after "i", the first time i did it slowly and it didn't work.
