  • R36 Climate control

My R36 climate control system seems to have a glitch.
In Perth we've had a lot of cold yet Sunny days.
Going to work (in the dark) the system works fine.
Yet coming home in the afternoon with the outside temp indicating 14deg and the system set to 23deg the climate control system decides it wants to freeze us by blowing cold air at fan speed 3 or 4 !

My Audi could be left at 23deg year in year out and always adjusted itself according to the conditions beautifully yet the R36 can't do that.

Is there a problem or is it normal?
Currently every afternoon I have to turn the AC off and adjust the fan speed down manually...surely that's not right

Mine's been behaving itself, but in winter I run it in Auto mode with no A/C - will try it tomorrow with the A/C on and see what it does...

Running it with no AC for extended periods of time can be bad - the seals can start to dry out. Always use AC regularly, even through winter. Personally, I use Auto all the time and just adjust the temp. No issues.

        I always have as well.
The AC can be used by the system to demist the windows quickly.
I'm fed up with getting blasted with cold air though.
Is the sensor in the top middle of the dash ?
If that's it maybe sunlight is making it seem warmer than it is on cold sunny days...hope not as I'm hoping the dealer will be able to fix this

I presume you have the new climate control which is the same as the GOLF now. Not sure if you are aware, but there is a LOW and HIGH Auto option. if you don't want it to blast you use the LOW Auto option, probably best to refer to user manual.

No R36 has those HVAC controls. (thankfully - cause they're crap compared to the old style)

All MY10 R36 have them. I have had the MY09 and now the MY10, the new design I personally think is better. it's also fully integrated in with the RCD510, so any changes made on the controller are also displayed on RCD510.

I have noticed the same thing. If you're getting some half decent sunlight on the dash irrespective of how cold it is then it blows cold. I have to say, for a vehicle that is made for such cold climates the heater is pretty crapola.

I live in Canberra and often drive in sub zero temperatures and no issues whatsoever. Toasty warm here!

I've got a 4 week old MK6 Golf and it does the exact same thing you have described. Mornings gets nice and warm but some afternoons will just blow cold air.
I've had it check out twice and they have said there is nothing wrong with it.
The dealer were kind enough to lend me a new GTI for the night to compare and it did the exact same thing as mine.
It must be just the way the system works.

                            NEW Climate Control:

That old climate control pic is NOT an R36. And if the new pic is, then it looks ridiculous! The shifter is wrong and the HVAC controls look cheap and tacky. And I'm not even going to mention the spew worthy seats that aren't even alcantara! Looks more like a CC interior to me, with the R36 metalic dash trim.

This is WAY nicer! And 5 temp settings for the heated seats too.

I picked my R36 up last Wednesday, Rocket...only 3 temp settings for the front heated seats.
