Those sort of airless tyres have been around for over 5 years now!Originally posted by team_v View PostAirless tyres i believe refers to the ones with rubber support structures instead of air i.e. airless tyres - Google Search.

If something was going to go mainstream, it would have by now. While I reckon they'd perform better, be safer, provide more grip and wear longer - they are also ugly and people simply don't understand them (when they look at them). Not to mention a higher cost. I reckon we'll be in hover cars before these ever go into mass production.
Although people are making bigger and better versions of things all the time...

i originally thought of the tweel. I guess a system like that would be able to hit the market so long as they were willing to put a sidewall on it. Wonder if thats the sort of thing they are talking about thoughLast edited by Tim; 13-05-2010, 03:26 PM.

On the subject of future engines, I mentioned to two dealers on seperate occasions that if the R36 reverts to a hypo 4 cylinder like the "R" Golf then my next car will not be another VW.
Interestingly both implied that a detuned version of the Audi 4.2 litre V8 may replace the 3.6 in the 'hero' Passat (don't shoot the messenger, just what I was told) if this is the case I'm staying put!

Got to love getting detuned options for less money so you can just go and retune it later. Would be awesome if that was the case! And I am 100% in agreement with you. If the trend of the R36 goes along similar lines to the R32, then my next car would definitely not be a VW.Originally posted by GHW View PostOn the subject of future engines, I mentioned to two dealers on seperate occasions that if the R36 reverts to a hypo 4 cylinder like the "R" Golf then my next car will not be another VW.

I'll probably be looking for a low km Audi S5 before Christmas though - now that I'm not heading OS.

I "third" the motion to ensure that VW sticks with V6s (or above!) in its performance orientated Passats!
Rocket, an S5 would be nice for sure as would a new "supercharged" S4. Funnily enough I went through these deliberations (even going as high as AMG C63) before falling back to earth and I settled on the 3.6 CC!sigpicMY10 Passat CC V6 - RNS510, GPS, RVC, self park, dynaudio, cooling seats!

Tear offs? Well they do exist for the windscreen... But are only used in motorsport.Originally posted by V6Passat View Postahhh it could be like the F1 and other racing helmets! when you get bugs on one layer of film, you just peel it off...wow thats clever.....We are going to get very wet when it rains though....

Haven't Mercedes dropped the supercharged (kompressor) thinking and gone turbo?Originally posted by Leagle View PostRocket, an S5 would be nice for sure as would a new "supercharged" S4. I would've thought the newer "detuned" version of the current S4 engine...lighter engine/ better economy etc etc for the next R36 ...if there is one? I do hope so.Originally posted by GHW View PostInterestingly both implied that a detuned version of the Audi 4.2 litre V8 may replace the 3.6 in the 'hero' Passat (don't shoot the messenger, just what I was told) if this is the case I'm staying put!

Haven't VW already done this a month or 2 ago (the interior/driveline changes anyway)? They dropped the 2.0 Turbo Petrol Auto and the 103kw 2.0TDI DSG and brought in a 118kw 1.8 Turbo Petrol 7 speed DSG (1.8, not the 1.4 twin charged unit from the Golf) and left the 125kw 2.0 TDI DSG as the only diesel. Updated interior with the new climate control/steering wheel/white backlit dash etc + new options like Lane Assist. Exterior is still the same, they just changed which model gets which wheel design and the 118TSI is the only one that gets a plain black grille now, the 3.2V6 4Motion still gets the chrome inserts but now the TDI does too.Originally posted by OilBurna View Posthere is hoping supposed to be upgrading to CC interior and dash etc. Prob is more of a Golf style update. new front and rear lights fronts with DRL's Not sure if any engine changes or 7 speed DSG would be niceLast edited by mtj007; 14-05-2010, 07:40 PM.
