AFAIK the 18's were not a part of the 125KW motor option, my father in law has a 125tdi MY08 the only option it has is leather trim and it has 17 inch alloys.

Caddyman is correct; I just checked my saved copies of the Passat brochures (PDF files) and the 125KW TDI motor first appears in the MY08 brochure and with 17 inch wheels and the 103KW TDI has 16 inch wheels.
The MY07 TDI (only 103KW offered), which the OP is looking at, has 17 inch wheels as standard.
If it still has some of the orginal 3 yr VW warranty that is a significant bonus, as that means you can buy the extra 3 years VW new car extended warranty (definitely worth having and if you shop around you can save a lot on the RRP).
As VW TDI engines are a bit fussy about oil I'd look for a record of oil changes (max 1yr/15,000Km) with the correct spec oil (VW 504/507), as well as other normal servicing (eg brake fluid at 2 years).
Make sure the a/c works properly (but even at their best they aren't arctic freezer strength).
If a manual, make sure the clutch doesn't judder or make horrible noises (that is a sign of a DMF on the way out).
2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).
yeh i just bought a 2007 TDI Wagon about 2 months ago.
I didnt get the chance to really check it out (only looked at it the morning i bought it) and im pretty sure my gearbox is stuffed
also bought extended warranty but warranty or no warranty, it seems like its a bitch to get VW to cough up for the Mechatronics unit
so definately check the gearbox, and also that the tailgate shuts easily (mine doesnt )

.
with the recent discussion on this topic i shopped 2 dealers and got quoted $ 1700 and 2200 ( from memory), but others have suggested $1000.
