biggest question, has it had the DSG mechatronics unit replaced. if it is still under warranty then it shouldn't be an issue.

Seconded.... Having just purchased a '06 TDI that has a mecatronics unit on order, I am VERY glad my car was just (4 days) within warranty.

if it's a Wagon you are looking at I would also confirm the tailgate latch is latching without needing to slam it.

        checks

drive over some speed humps to see if its got any rattles- they seem to be be a "feature" of these cars.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

Check if it has a DPF on it and see if it has been replaced.

Might want to look at a provent or dpf-delete in the near future if you go the TDI line.

not sure what u mean here? a delete option for the diesel particulate filter?
or do u mean just remove it? is that easy?

Custom code have done a DPF delete pipe and software upgrade for the TDI VAG engine i believe.
Cogdoc is getting his GT TDI done soon.

It removes the DPF and gived you extra power becasue the DPF is the most restrictive part of the system.
It also saves you money as the DPF will not clog up (since it isn't there) and cost $5k to replace.

the provent system acts to prevent a lot of the EGR buildup in the DPF.
This prolongs the life of the DPF but the Delete option is permanent and gives much more power and torque.

                  It is legal.
The DPF is put on to allow the cars to be Euro V compliant.
New cars have to be compliant with euro emissions standards to be sold.

One it is sold, they no longer need to be compliant and as such you can remove the DPF.

Perfectly legal to remove it and you get power gains in teh golf of around 50kw and smoother torque delivery.

DPF not fitted to MY07 TDI.

AFIK the MY07 TDI only offered the 103KW motor which did not have a DPF.
The MY08 TDI offered 103KW and 125KW motors and the DPF was only fitted to the 125KW motor (with 18 inch wheels as part of the option package).
Of course, others on this forum may have more knowledge about this than I do.

AFAIK the 18's were not a part of the 125KW motor option, my father in law has a 125tdi MY08 the only option it has is leather trim and it has 17 inch alloys.

I think you have that wrong team_v..... yes there is more power without the DPF (and the appropriate chip) but not 50kw ......

You need a host of other mods in addition to get that 50kw ....

To clarify, the DPF delete comes with a re-tune of the ECU which allows a 50kw gain.

awelsh is right mine is a 2007 and has no DPF, i.e the pumpe duse version, I believe the new 103kw i.e common rail has one, but not sure when it came in from 2009 / 10 model?

Make sure all services have been done, closely check the overall condition of the car inside and out, make sure no accidents etc. Any other questions on the wagon feel free to ask.
