Fair points on all that R36Dreamer. The Treg is a great car, it will probably be my next addition. My friend has one and my only comment would be that they are a bit of a bitch to park being very wide with rounded dropoff at the front meaning you rely heavily on the parking sensors (they are better than the R36 anyway as you don't have to turn them on for the front when parking and the lights are at eye level also if you have the stereo up a little). The V6 diesel is awesome.

Open your mind
R36 dreamer, i will get crucified for saying thisbut you really should open your mind and look at the Skoda Superb V6 3.6ltr Wagon. It is a good looking car it has the same engine as your R36 but 191kw not 22k0kw (nothig a simple remapping wont fix) and its interior is much classier than the standard Passat, more Audi like.
It will appear ridiculous to begin with but you will be spending around $12,000 less than the R36 and be getting a much more versatile car than the Land Rover or Touareg that are both small in cabin and cargo space.
It can't hurt to explore it right?!

[QUOTE=apom;449837] Look closer however and feel at the detail level and you can see its not up to VW standard let alone Audi. Not a huge difference but some of the plastics and trims that are not shared are not of the same standard.QUOTE]
What planet are you on where you can write this stuff and feel you have a shred of credibility. The Passat interior is cheap, tacky and as plasticky (if thats a word) as most of your upper level jap cars. The skoda is clearly light years above even in details such as the seats dash fit and feel and read below for case in point
Germany's Auto Bild gives Skoda Yeti the thumbs up over VW Tiguan
Date of publication: 2009-05-14 09:37:00
The much-awaited Skoda Yeti may create quite a stir after Germany’s respected motoring weekly Auto Bild has tested the Czech newcomer against the Volkswagen Tiguan, saying the Yeti is actually a better vehicle than its German counterpart.
Rafal Zaglewski
Earlier this month, Germany’s leading motoring weekly Auto Bild announced the results of a survey after it pitched five Skoda models against the same number of corresponding cars available in the Volkswagen range. The test was carried out in order to determine which brand had a better product line-up to suit the average consumer.
In a contest featuring the Skoda Yeti versus the Volkswagen Tiguan, it was the former than won more points from Auto Bild, thus helping the Skoda brand to win the showdown over Volkswagen 3:2 (Skoda’s Roomster and Superb also scored better than their Volkswagen-brand counterparts). In other Skoda Yeti news, the Czech vehicle was recently picked as one of the top-3 all-road vehicles of the year in the mini category, in a reader survey carried out by Germany’s trade publication 4Wheel Fun. The Yeti won roughly 18% of the votes in the mini category, moving on to claim the No.3 spot behind the Lada Niva and the Suzuki Jimny.
Skoda launched series production of the Yeti on May 12.
Is this were you show your high level of motoring knowledge and expertise and tell everyone that AutoBild is a rubbish magazine??

You are in the Passat area of the forums, did you expect someone who had chosen a Passat over a Superb to say "oh yes, I wish I'd got a Superb.."?
And given that we are talking about Passat (and you are now talking about Superb) why are you quoting stories on the Yeti / Tig? (That's a rhetorical question by the way.)
Go and be a keyboard warrior somewhere else.

No, but by the same token i wouldn't expect people to rubbish what is essentially the same brand with their own valid attributes over VW. It would be like saying an Audi is rubbish becuase they are overprices compared to the Passat, it would be wrong and misleading.

Read the quote in its entirety, They did the comparison between all corresponding models in the VW/ Skoda range, the V6 3.2 Passat Vs V6 3.6 Superb as they are price pointed the same.

You may see it as a war but i see it as being self distructive, we belong to the same group who produce all of our cars, if there is a good viable option that can give you the same if not better quality then why wouldn't you explore it. I was just trying to keep the bloke in the fold becuase as soon as he realises how nowhere the toaureg is for space and manouverability he would be off exploring other manufacturers quicker than you could, give me another sitation.
If it is such a dirty horrible thought to lower yourself into a badge your friends and work colleagues wont recognize and can't associate you with being at a higher level then carry on with your Passat.

Take the king-sized chip on your shoulder or inferiority / superiority complex somewhere else... it is unbecoming and unwarranted. Apom stated that from the look that he had the build was better on the Passat. That was / is his opinion, and if you don't like it or agree then you are free to say so in a polite and respectful manner, as Apom did. If you are unable to do that then you will continue to get hit with infractions.
You are going the right way to get hit with a ban - last warning.

Given Resale is the biggest cost over the period of my lease, It is a big consideration for me when I buy a new (or used) car.
I read in the Wheels COTY issue (Jan10) that the Superb only just made the sales required to be assessed by judges (must sell more than 500 per annum). Only 250 odd have been sold so far.
I suppose it will take a while for them to establish themselves in the Oz market, though I hope they do - the product seems pretty good from what I have experienced.Confirmed Global Warming Sceptic. No Longer a VW Owner -Loving my new 2011 Range Rover Sport - bought as VW unable to provide info on the new Toureg despite it being released overseas 12 mths ago. 2008 R36 Wagon, 2006 GTI and 2004 R32 - Gone. Sorry VW, you make great cars but until you improve your customers' experiences you will lose customers

As for the sales it's not great but neither are Passat sedans normally around 1 in every 4 Passats sold are wagons so by this reasoning (whether sound or not) Skoda should be posting somehealthy figures with the wagon and therfore baulstering its case for good reasle down the track.

This will give you more of an idea of what its about, if this still doesn't tempt you then close the page and get on with your search for a more suitable new car. I know i have come across as a looney, i don't have shares in Skoda but i do have a strong appreciation of all things VW and would hate to see you move away from the brand without exploring all options.
I better move on before SwallowTail sends me to the abyss, good luck with it

I got to tell you though that what you have mentioned is valid and here in lies the problem. Skoda have set themselves on a path of a self fulfilling prophecy. To say they have only been here for a few years (nearly 3 which is quite long period goven their credentials) and will not have stand alone dealerships with professional dedicated consultants until the sales volume increases is setting the scene for failure for what they want people to perceive as a semi-prestige product.
Think of it from a buyers perspective, if you have $55,65,000 to spend, heck if you $35,000 to spend and you are faced with a product that is supposed to be superior tacked onto mainstream dealers such as Holden and Mitsubishi as an an after thought as apposed to established, recognized stand alone japanese and euro products it is a no brainer as to which one the majority would choose.
It is like the self perpetuating merry go round, "we'll grow when the numbers justify it" ad the cliental are thinking "I'll take it seriously when they present a more serious and dedicated dealer network". Skoda fail to realise that the later will see them vaporize before it will see them succeed so all in all they need to have a wholesale change of direction before people will take them seriously.
When its all said and done though it is a very good product and is in line with what we have come to expect from the god like Volkswagen Group. It is a good option for R36dreamer and will serve him and his family well. Whether given the fore mentioned he sees it as a valid option as a genuine buyer is the $60,000+ question and in reality Skoda's fete in the OZ market
