Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • "Hidden" ECU data menu

Has anyone else found the data menu the service guys use to read values on the ECU? The saleman showed us when we picked the car up. Its pretty cool but I only know what what one of the readouts is actually measuring. (#19 - Actual speed)

It would be good to find out what the rest are as I imagine they will be things like water and oil temp etc.

The menu is found using the climate control.

1: hold the AC button down and press the other circled button once

2: the screens will change to this

3: use the left dial to cycle through the menu. There are 31 different sections.

4: within each section there are a number of sub sections which are accessed using the centre dial

5: to go back to the normal controls for the climate control, simply press the AC button again

I'm guessing the sub sections are showing the speed for example in Km/h as well as mph or something like that. Would be great to know for sure though.

It's amazing just how far out the speedo is. If the Climate Control speed display is accurate of course.

You mean like in post #3 of this thread ?

AFAIK the digital speed shown here is pretty accurate (unlike the analogue speedo).

ah thts so helful...i was recently driving up to lakes enrtance with a mate and he seemed to be going faster than me while i was on 113 cruise control..he told me he truthfully wasnt speeding and i think my speedo is out by around 7 or 8 km. Is there a way to get this fixed?

            awesome, thanks for that mate.

I think most cars speedo's will be out by a few k's at least when travelling at 100 or more. Unless you have changed the rolling dia. of wheels/tyres

Does this work on 08' TDI (fitted with RCD500)? Would like to try that.

I was driving from Melbourne to Sydney last week. Cruise control on 115 'cos I knew the meter was a few k's off.

I drove pass this overhead speed reading thing and it showed my speed as 107. I suppose even if I set it to 118, I am still within the limit.

Yep, speedo is out by quite a way, in 2100 zone i drive at 111 and its exactly 103km/h

                IN a 110 zone i do 122 and its 113

confirmed as accurate with overheads and a couple of different GPS units ove the past couple of years.

The Odo is accurate though. speedo reads high only.

Its actually what you get with dyslexic fingers trying to type "100 Zone"

As for the full list, have a look at this link.

                            Hidden Data

Any clues how to access these menus/data in a MY10 CC with RNR510?
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.

I think I read in another thread that the "service data" wasn't available in some MY10 cars - if it doesn't have a digital display in the HVAC controls you might not be able to do it

Of course it might still be possible but there is a new method of getting it to display that no-one knows (yet).
