i'v noticed that it ticks when the engine is warm.
also its time for engine oil change, every 7500. which oil should i be using? it has 127000 and i think the last time i used 10w50 or something similar.
Recondition the engine. Sounds like a pretty big job ray. I used to here that on the old vr6 ticking sound all the time. Check the timing belt pulleys they could be lose.

The problem most likely is your oil pick up is full of slug which staves the top of the motor of oil this is because thats the last place the oil reachs. If i was you i would pull the sump off clean the pickup and the go from there its a cheap exercise to do. just my 2 bobs worth

I would go with this, then put a genuine filter on and some Mobil 1 oil.
