    I have been looking around on the web reguarding 0-100 times. When I did a search I saw something in German about 4.9 with launch control but it was in German and I don't speak or read german. If it's true I find 4.9 something to be seen to believe.
    I know the std specs are 5.6 for the sedan and 5.8 for the wagon.
    Is this with or without launch control ?

    If so, what is the time without or otherwise. Wondering if anyone knows or has actually timed it.

    4.9? Its not a Carrera sorry!

    Probably closer to around 6 seconds + / - 0.3 a second or therebouts. Also keep in mind the driver's ability as well as other variables like tire pressures, temp and other conditions. It'd be similar in performance to something like a VY I & II SS or a standard XR6 turbo.

      remember VW have a habit of under-estimating the 0-100 claims. can be seen all the time in auto magazines quoting faster times to 100 than vw does, and guys on the forum posting faster times. ie polo gti quoted 8.2 seconds, but very easy to get under 8 seconds for most people.

        I've had an LS2 VE Clubsport R8 and now have an R36. There's no noticable difference in performance in normal day to day driving conditions but the R36 handles a WHOLE lot better. Down a long straight, the Clubby would probably beat it but on a small track with a short straight and some nice fun corners, the R36 was doing faster lap times.

        Really thought, 0-100 isn't a hugely important figure to me... Overall performance is. No point having something fast in just a straight line or just in the corners. The R36 is a great compromise!

            Thanks guys for the comments. But does anyody know the answer to wheather the car is 5.8 (wagon) 5.6 (sedan) with or without launch control ?

              Hi Vossy, this is VW's claim with launch control. I can confirm that flat to low 5's are possible in real driving test. I last timed one (sedan with 15000 k's on the clock) with manual timing and G-tech pro, we got consistant 5.1-5.3 sec.
              This is with BP ultimate (1/4 full tank), flat private road and ambient temp of 16 degrees C, driver only (me/69KG) car in Sport/manual mode with launch control.
              Wagons are slightly slower and is noticeable (my wifes car). I'd say by around .3-.6 of a sec.

              Unfortunately I have no experience 1st hand on 1/4 mile with R36's and not willing to take wife's car out, but I estimate between 13.1-13.3 sec.
              Having owned quite a few cars over the years I can really confirm that this would be close.

              R36's are great handling cars with decent amount of power to match. Very well equipped for the money you pay. Great brakes that fades very little. Best asset is the DSG tranny which really compliment the power delivery.
              Torque is on the low side so do not expect much with 4 adults in the car going uphill.

                just putting it out there...4.9 may have been 0-60mph and not 62? still a quick car regardless...

                  Thanks Ron. Thought that the std specs they quote would be with the launch control. So what you mentioned, the std specd times are without.

                      Yer three months to go without a car. Oh well hope the wait is worth it. Previously had a Mazda 3 MPS. Not bad, but you can't be European quality for build and all wheel drive won't go front wheel drive again with that much power, wore out the tyres in 11 months.

                      Dealing with Volkswagon salesman is not an easy feat no one rings you back. Ended up buying interstate from wodonga considering we have just a FEW dealers in vic.

                        The 4.9s 0-100 is for a highly modified golf released in Europe with tein turbos they call R36 also. It does those times.
                        Regards journos testing R36 Motor did a test they got 0-100 in 6s and a british magazine actually got the claimed 5.6s.

                          Most motoring magazines around the world battled to get a sub 6s 0-100. Quartermiles from around the world are around 14.4s on average.

                          Whilst the R36 is a great all rounder, it is flattered a bit by the DSG box and AWD a bit. It does not have enough power and torque to overcome a fairly heavy weight to move along unfortunately. 220Kw/350NM is just not enough for a 1680kg car to crack 14s on the qrtr.

                          0-100 in this case is flattered by the AWD traction off the line, but you need lots of power & specifically torque as well to do good (sub 14) quarters. You would see this in the V8 cars with 270kw/550NM and the same 1700kg but not in a stock R36 I'm afraid.

                          I spent a lot of time doing 400m sprints in a previous life and high power to weight ratios linked to good traction is the key.

                            Flattered by AWD and the DSG gearbox? With all due respect, that is quite a silly thing to say. So, you are saying that any manual car is flattered by a manual gearbox because they are better at than a normal auto? You cannot dissect a car and say that the gearbox flatters a car or that AWD flatters a car, because these things are part of that car and are intrinsic to it. It would be like saying that a particular car handles well, only because is flattered by a good chasis!

                            The fact of the matter is, for a 3.6lt motor pulling a reasonably heavy car, the R36 absolutely flies compared to any other standard production line 3.6lt V6, handles better than most and is one of the best value for money performance sedan/wagons, too.

                              Not disagreeing with the R36 being a very good performance sedan/wagon. But it is flattered by the AWD and DSG combination I'm afraid.

                              If the R36 had a 6spd Tiptronic and FWD (or RWD) and same power and weight it would perform much worse .....

                              Much more powerful cars with similar weight (XR6T/FPV F6 for instance) battle with their RWD only setups in getting traction to the ground. Powerful cars with standard auto boxes also have issues.

                              AWD and DSG is a definate advantage, hence VWs decision to include it. It is not a given, it was a decision made by VW to combat weight in delivering performance. Its called engineering........

                              If you lack power and have a weight issue you have to look elsewhere for an advantage and in this case AWD and DSG is it.
