White R36, only with sunroof, why??

Anyone here know why it isn't possible to order a white r36 without the $$$sunroof ? Has anyone had this debate with their VW dealer? I am more than a little partial to white and can think of better ways to spend the sunroof money on the Passat, like Haldex or DSG upgrade, or Dynaudio for instance.

Seems strange that if the cars are not even built yet, to not be able to spec a white one without the sunroof. Don't you think?

Don't know about the why, but I was always going to order the sunroof and wanted white anyway.

But yeah... it's a minimum of about $2k more than the base car this way. A bit more exclusive as well I think for that reason; since some people will not want the sunroof and for them it is not an option to go white.

its a strange one alright....i was so set on white, that i was prepared to cop the sunroof (having always bagged them out)....now i really like it, i haven't yet closed the blind (it's not summer yet )

The R32, when it was offered in white, had a similar problem.

White wasn't even an option when I ordered - I had the choice of blue, black, or silver. If I'd waited six months I would have gone white... it's hot.

Enjoy the sunroof... I wouldn't have gone for one, but now that I have it.. I'll keep going with them, short of being able to take the top right off..

believe it or not.... when i asked the question at the dealer the sunroof on the white ones was in replacement for NOT being metallic paint and therefore, made all the base pricing the same. Something to do with the arrangment with the factory about OZ delivered R36's

OK the actual answer is as follows.

VW include the cost of metalic paint in the RRP of the R36.

As white is not metalic, they throw in a sunroof.

The DEALERS (aka STEALERS) are ripping people of who order white R36s and are forced to pay for the sunroof. It's an inlcuded factory option with the white ones. And it's because you don't get metalic paint. There is NO justification for a dealer charging someone ordering a white R36 the full price of the sunroof option.

I'd actually say that the white with roof is probably the result of the factory SKU setup. More than likely the market for white passat's in Aus is small, and the majority that do get them probably get a sun roof optioned too. Therefore it would be smart in terms of planning costs to allocate part of the production of white with roof only to Aus. More margin and simpler ops process. This is just me guessing however knowing similar setups in my work.

I don't think so - even though mine is a white TDI wagon, the sunroof was still an option on it.. and I've seen white Passats without it.
