I bought a set of Pirelli P Zero Rossos's for only $1k from St George Tyres in Sydney, but exchanged them for Dunlop Eagle F1's because I discovered that the Pirelli's were not legal on the R36 as the tyre rating was only 91Y compared to the minimum required 95Y. This would also cause problems with with insurance.
Interesting. My Pirelli P Zero Rosso's are 95Y. There must be two versions.

Quite possibly. The standard price for the Pirelli P Zero Rosso's are about $2k for 4 tyres, not $1k. I would say that they were on special due to the fact that they were such a lowly speed/load rating and would suit very few cars.

St George Tyres have been involved before in this sort of BS, they were selling tyres that were a fraction of the price (can't remember the brand) but it turns out that the tyres were a special winter edition only for cold climates and they performed totally different to the proper tyre.
They also sell tyres that are years old and tyres lose around 15% of their grippiness after 6 months so I'd hate to see what they're like after 2-3 years.
You would be surprised at the amount of passenger cars I see on a weekly basis with M+S Mud and Snow) stamped in the sidewalls. Not required in 95% of Australia, to be honest.
I haven't seen many tyre wear issues with the R36s thus far. Most of the tyre wear concerns I've seen are with Touaregs. Mainly caused by underinflation. Sorry, but a 2.5 tonne glorified truck needs more than 25psi in the tyres.
