What size tyres did you end up getting and how many did you get, almost 2k is pretty expensive.
team_v, the tyres are for my R36 so 235/40/18. I have always had a preference for Yokies for their handling and longevity considering they are a performance tyre. On my MY05 GT I always got over 30k per set. pj
I had Falkens on my MY98 WRX for a short time and 3 of the 4 tyres were split on the side wall of the tyre. Never bothered to try them again. BTW whilst my R36 was on the hoist for a wheel alignment I looked at the under edge of the front spoiler and surprise surprise almost all of the paint was gone. pj
To satisfy my need for new tyres and to satisfy my desire not to spend too much coin before heading overseas, I'm getting two new Bridgestone RE001's put on the front tomorrow, and I'm also having the set up tweaked to hopefully reduce inside wear and extend the life beyond 13000km. $362 fitted, which seems acceptable.
Apparently the stock Dunlops will take months to get here, and the tyre guy rubbished them anyway.
No dramas re: Bridgestone front and Dunlop rear, either - but I suspect once I get back to Australia more permanently early next year I'll buy two (well, three including the spare) more to have a matching set
$809 later I now have two new Bridgestone RE001 tyres on the front, a balance, and an alignment. I've asked for the front toe in to be removed. Apparently this was adjusted 15mm (the guy had to double check because he wasn't sure such a large number was correct) and as such threw my steering out... I picked the car up and did a lap around the block with the wheel pointed waaay to the left. That was fixed too.

That's because tyre fitters aren't exactly a bright bunch. Talk to some people with Motorsport Engineering experience. With the right setup, all tyres should wear evenly.

At the risk of copping a serve, in a predominantly front wheel drive setup wouldn't the fronts always wear more quickly than the rears without rotating? I'm not a tyre fitter.
I put a set of Pirelli P Zero Rossos's on my R36 and they are excellent.
I bought a set of Pirelli P Zero Rossos's about $1k from St George Tyres in Sydney, but exchanged them for Dunlop [correction: Goodyear] Eagle F1's because I discovered that the Pirelli's were not legal on the R36 as the tyre rating was only 91Y compared to the minimum required 95Y. This would also cause problems with with insurance.
