Fairly simple process, as shown in the manual (but if it's locked in the car..)

    1) Remove the spare key from the main key.

    2) Undo the cover flap at the rear of a front door handle (there's a slot in the under side of it).

    3) Door unlock barrel now exposed, use spare key to manually unlock door. Looks like the same sort of key slot as used on Commodores, Golfs, etc.

    Cheers..

Note too that if you have the VW car alarm fitted this will set it off... but pushing the remote into the ignition slot will de-activate it.

Or by pressing the key fob door unlock button.

True... but I figured that if you need to be manually unlocking the car that the most likely reason is that the key fob is inoperative... as I missed that the reason the OP posted was cos he disconnected his battery!

            Hi Guys,

passatpout, swallowtail and lanceb thank you for your respond.

My mistaken I disconnected the battery while the car in locked.

I am going on vacations for 3 months.. I tried that by using the spare key

to unlock it on driver door but no luck. It is a electric lock.

Maybe some one got any idea how to open the bonnet manually so I can connect the battery.

            or

            any other idea??

thanks again for all your respond

            Cheers

Sorry, should have made it clearer - not the spare key as in the second key for the car, but the removable key within the electronic keys, which looks like a plastic version of any profile cut key used for the last 20-odd years. Under the flap on the door is a manual lock barrel.

If you're still having trouble, I'll have a crack with mine tonight (it's an MY08 as well) and photo each stage.

Otherwise, for a manual release of the bonnet, have a look under the bumper and see if the release cable is accessible.

                Hi passatpout,
                .
                Thank you for your help.

I tried both plastic key or spare key. I have no luck so far with driver door.

Yes please if you got time. Could you try it on your MY08 please? But don't lock your bonnet after disconnected battery.

                Thanks again

                Regards

OK, I'll have a crack at it, as soon as the State of Origin is finished..

The instructions given work fine for me on my MY09.

Here goes.. with photos... first Photobucket attempt.. so be patient.. (can anyone help getting the photos in there??)

                        1) Take your key and remove the inner plastic key.

                        2) Find the slot in the underside of the rear cover panel behind the driver's door handle.

                        3) Use the plastic car key (or small screwdriver) to flick the cover off. This may go flying, since it's held on fairly tightly with plastic clips, and when it comes off will go suddenly. This will expose a manual unlocking key slot and barrel.

                        5) Insert plastic key into slot and rotate 90 degrees clockwise. There is a resistance at about the 80 degree position, which must be pushed through to mechanically unlock the door.

Hope this helps, otherwise call VW Assist.

add [ IMG ] to the front of any image link and [ / IMG ] to the end and it embeds it (without spaces though).

Photobucket has this as an option ready to copy and paste for every image you upload.
