iphone in Passat does not work

Has anybody had any luck with iPads?

Interesting reading. I get given AC (apple crap as we call it) stuff for work - specifically iPads and iPhones. But I buy Android tablets and phones for home use (latest HTC makes an iPhone 4S look and feel like a dinosaur). Never have a problem with bluetooth in the car (but do with the iPhone - doesn't like it if I switch it on after starting the car for some reason). As for iPads, won't even go there, only thing going for the new iPad - for an obscene price, does have a great screen if that's really important to you and the kids.

I've decided to post this little tidbit of information here

When I had my 2007 Jetta it had a cable coming out of the glove box that was supposed to work with any 'i'device (ipod / iphone etc etc.)

If you have a newer 'i' device and have connected it to the cable, you'll notice that it'll plug in and power up and you can hear music played through it, but it won't charge the 'i' device. This can get annoying as if like me, you use an ipod in the car and go on long trips, it'll run out of juice rather quickly, especially if you're playing back lossless music.

I came across a device that will charge your newer 'i' device via the inbuilt cable in the glovebox.

This is it dockStubz Charge Converter and 30-pin Pass-Through Adapter - Note the Charge Converter section - that's what made it work in my Jetta.

It's easy to use and works flawlessly. I've tried it on my iPad 2, iPhone 4 and Ipod Nano (4th gen) and they all charge while the cars ignition is on.

For $30 delivered, It's a bargain.

I now own a 2008 Passat and i've changed the stock head unit on it with a Pioneer Single DIN unit with a converter purchased from eBay.

Flawless bluetooth connectivity, dash menu system integration and steering-wheel controls. Highly reccommended if you're stuck with the old head unit (non Sat Nav).

I have an Iphone 3 and havent had any trouble with it in my 2011 Passat I bought the Ipod cable off Ebay plugged it all together and it works fine.
Mostly only use it as a BT phone though as have the HDD with about 6000 tunes on it.

It always connects to the car and phone book comes up and can voice control it as well.

Does it charge though, HB? That's my main annoyance. I got VW to throw in the iphone/ipod cable for free so it'd be great if I didn't have to go out and buy another one, but I will if that's what it takes to get it to work all the way.
