    SDHC trumps MDI

I got the MDI fitted but the SD slot is better I reckon. Just my opinion but I think the songs sound better off the SD card than from the iphone. Plus 16gb card is only 40 bucks as opposed to 300 for the MDI and 200-700 for ipod or iphone. I still use the iphone for bt integration but I havent really used the MDI since I got the car.

The best soloution I found for charging iPhone was the mini Ridax adapter
it works well and is compact

its because Apple changed the connector from the old gen stuff (12v) to the new gen (5v).

i have recently overcome this problem by buying a simple 12v to 5v adaptor and now my cable charges my iphone. it still comes up with the airplane mode error but just say no, and you can still use it as a phone, and the music can still be played through it!!

I'm about to order a new Passat with SatNav - do we need the MDI as well or is there a better solution for full iPhone integration?

i would scrap the i-phone and order a blackberry bold 9000 or the new 9700. The bluetooth and intergration is bullet proof. I am under preasure at work to follow the pack into the iphone (i work in the telco industry) and when i tested the BT with a fellow worker, the BT dropped out all the time, the error messages also appeared. Tested it with my wifes iphone the same night and same issues. So i have ordered a BB9700. PS. I have the Kufatec basic plus kit. Just my view and goodluck with what ever path you choose.

iPhone bluetooth plays up for me about once a month... so hardly "all the time"... I use a Skoda Bluetooth kit for hands free (integrates BT into the RNS510) and an MDI for charging and audiobooks... I use a 32GB SD card in the RNS510 for general audio.

Solution works fine. Occasionally the iphone's BT doesn't pair up, and I have to just switch off BT and back on again on the iPhone. Problem solvered...

I ordered "Premium BT" with my CC (which turned out to be an aftermarket Kufatec solution) and couldn't be happier with the way it works with my iphone.

Phone calls work well, I have speed dial programmed when touching "Phone" on my RNS510, and it automatically uploads all my contacts. I can easily scroll down and use my contacts through the RNS510 touch screen or the MFD (much easier on the big nice touch screen though

If I play a tune on my iphone it wirelessly plays through my speakers courtesy of the bluetooth solution. The sound quality is not as good as a wired solution mind you.

My MDI works well with my iphone, nicely integrates with the RNS510, but given that I have a 30gb hard disc, it is pretty redundant lol.

My 2c .... I bought the Fiscon Basic+ from Europe and got it "partially" installed in Melb. In future I would buy (and have it installed) the same unit locally as it is then their job to make it work. In the end it wont be any cheaper to import myself considering the hassle.

                    Phones:
I first tried my HTC HD - pairs mostly all the time, sound is muffles from the other parties perspective, fonebook reads OK, speed dials work, dial lists (missed calls; dialled numbers etc) not available, No MFD or s/wheel integration at all - never tested the music.

The Nexus 1 (Google fone) - pairs all the time, sound is still mufflly from the other parties perspective, fonebook reads OK, speed dials work, dial lists (missed calls; dialled numbers etc) available, No MFD or s/wheel integration at all that I have noticed yet - tested the music via B/T and it seems OK.

                    MFD:
Plays & charges the Ipoo fine --- bit laggy at connecting sometimes

to clarify "all the time"....in test 1 at work had three different Iphone handsets all the latest 3GS models and was a combination of stationary and driving in CBD - i had a total of 4 disconnects in one hour. Each time i cleared the old pairing relationships and essentially started over. In test 2 at home, only my wifes phone and again both in garage and around the burbs we live in (very close to cbd) had 3 disconnects in the space of around 30 mins. So after this very stringent 'testing' i am not prepared to go with the i phone. Now to be fair, the iphone is not my cup of tea but it is many others, the BB just does what i need it to do more reliably and so far has never let me down. As i said, good luck with which ever path you choose. Cheers V6 Passat.

I take it this is not something they'd install at a VW dealer. Why did you choose the Skoda BT? Is it a better solution than the dealer optioned Kufatec?

I read the sticky, but am still none the wiser as to what is the best option. I guess what I'd really like to know is why you chose the Skoda BT in the first place and whether that is the best for iPhone 3GS, or has something become available recently that resolves all the reported issues people seem to be having with disconnects.

                            Thanks for your patience.

I chose the Skoda for the following reasons:

Full OEM integration - recent call lists on RNS510 (Fiscon doesn't); uses OEM mic; fits in OEM spot under driver seat; full native integration with steering wheel buttons, MFD and RNS510; works well with voice control (either its own or the RNS510's); and it is reasonably priced.

Installation is time-consuming but not overly hard to do if you are moderately handy and careful.

I have a 3G, not a 3GS. In 3 or 4 months of using it, I have never had a disconnect whilst usign the phone, and only 3 or 4 times has it disconnected whilst actively paired and still being in the car. In each instance it immediately re-paired.

Once every couple of weeks or month or so, it fails to pair on getting into the car - turning BT off and on again on the iPhone immediately resolves that.

I bought an VW MDI iPad cable from eBay. Still waiting for arrival. However, I also spotted this cable adaptor for the iPad.

I may also purchase this to charge the iPad for the kids in the back seat. I wonder if it will charge the iPad quick enough to watch movies if the iPad is completely discharged however. Otherwise, a DVD player may have to be the go. Has anybody had any luck with iPads?
