  • Handsfree Bluetooth - Premium Equivalent

I have just had the Kufatec Fiscon Basic Plus unit installed into my car and it is the real deal - full integratation with the head unit and MFD display - copies all of your contacts from the phone, lets you nominate speed dial numbers, lets you dial a new number through the head unit and mfd, and much much more.

Best thing is that the bloke who installed it provides a mobile service, did it at my work, took him 30minutes to install, he has VAGCOM and did all the necessary patches to get it working 100%.

Supply and installed it cost $840 with a 3 year warranty - this unit is just as good if not better than the Premium Bluetooth and is less than half the $2k price VW want for their unit.

I've got this sitting in a box at home to fit in mine when it arrives... looks good, glad to hear it's working well. I think the only thing it doesn't do is voice activated dialling?

All I need to do once I've got it in is find someone with VAGCOM to set the electronics!

I'm in Brisbane and have a car due in about 10 weeks now.

Where can one get hold of this fellow?

your right - no voice activated dialing but you can get your whole phones contact list up on the mfd so its pretty easy to dial - alternatively you can set up 6 speed dials for all the essential numbers.

VAGCOM setup was required to get the unit working on the MFD - otherwise it worked on the head unit just via plug and play - only took the bloke 2 minutes to do what he needed once he plugged VAGCOM into his laptop.

            Great work Nat,

Just a question, which phone/s have you paired up with the Fiscon unit?

I'm thinking this is a great alternative to the VW premium unit!!

            Cheers,

            Jayse.

Yes, I'd like to know which units the Fiscon will support, too.

              Thanks

They say "Suitable for almost all available Bluetooth mobile phones on the market".

It's not restricted to rSAP phones.

                  Hi Mate, good choice.

BTW did they install the mic on the a-pillar or did they do the install properly and install it in the overhead console?

I like the idea of rSAP though. If I didn't have an iPhone, that would be the way I'd go.

Advantage is that it is an integrated car phone with its own system and antenna etc. that makes reception in marginal areas heaps better than a handheld unit. It also doesn't have in cabin radiation issues and interference.

The Premium unit is not just a bluetooth system. It uses bluetooth only to share the SIM card details of your handheld. After that it doesn't use your phone's transmitter or battery at all.

I just hope the next iPhone in 2010 supports rsap.

Just curious... How can something with a bluetooth connection use the car's aerial?

In the rSAP protocol the car's Bluetooth device uses Bluetooth to pair with and then "borrow" the handset's identity (and get contacts). It then subscribes to that identity itself, so it has an aerial, etc, itself. Any calls etc are made / received by the rSAP device, not the phone itself.

Swallowtail has explained it, but just to make it clearer.

Imagine we both had phones with rSAP.

My phone doesn't have a SIM card and yours does.

Through the rSAP protocol our phones communicate and my phone duplicates your SIM card details via the bluetooth connection. So it is mimicking your phone's identity to make calls etc.

That's how the Premium kit works. The Kit contains actual phone hardware, transmitter, receiver etc. It's not just a handsfree kit.

It uses bluetooth to simply communicate with your handheld mobile and uses its SIM card details or 'copies' them to make and receive calls. Very clever.

I am having this Fiscon Basic Plus unit installed next Tuesday (Day after I take delivery of my car) in South Melbourne. $850- installed and they can arrange VAGCOM for me. I had to pre-order - took 2 weeks to deliver.
