Handsfree Bluetooth - Premium Equivalent

I am having this Fiscon Basic Plus unit installed next Tuesday (Day after I take delivery of my car) in South Melbourne. $850- installed and they can arrange VAGCOM for me. I had to pre-order - took 2 weeks to deliver.

vwevo, what are the details of the dudes in sth melb doing the Fiscon for you? I was quoted about $100 more from some "we come to you" car kit crowd.

check out www.advancedice.com.au and they have a list of installers - this is where i got the name and number of the bloke that I used.

Gold Coast Slacks Creek is also a Dealer, between them they do work for Austral, Boetcher, Highway and Frizelles.
If you go to Moorooka in a couple of weeks you'll see my car in pieces out in the bay!

I have just had the Kufatec Fiscon Basic Plus unit installed into my car and it is the real deal - full integratation with the head unit and MFD display - copies all of your contacts from the phone, lets you nominate speed dial numbers, lets you dial a new number through the head unit and mfd, and much much more.

Best thing is that the bloke who installed it provides a mobile service, did it at my work, took him 30minutes to install, he has VAGCOM and did all the necessary patches to get it working 100%.

Supply and installed it cost $840 with a 3 year warranty - this unit is just as good if not better than the Premium Bluetooth and is less than half the $2k price VW want for their unit.

Have just returned from having the Fiscon unit fitted by GT Auto Sound of Glynde SA. Have to agree with Natwsmith about it being the real deal. Theo from GT said you can purchase the software to activate the MFD with the unit. That's what they did and no need to visit VW or use a VAGCOM, simply plug and play. The MFD can now show oil and water temp, battery voltage, litres remaining and rpm. It also shows real time speed and it agrees with my tomtom, which is somewhat different to the speedo guage.

Only problem is I have to go to my dealer to get them to code so I can use it with MFD and steering wheel functions (Will get even greater integration and features). My installer had tried to get it coded but it looks like the 09 MFD requires the most recent software to update the coding. They installed the microphone in the factory position (roof console). All up cost was $850-. Having used a few bluetooth units in my time I must say this is easily the best unit I have used and for the price it is money well spent. I will post some photos over the weekend.

The 09 MFD requires a certain revision level of the Fiscon unit - firmware 1.62 I believe - for it to work with the white MFD. VAGCOM coding is the same for both.

So who installs the firmware 1.62? Is it the Fiscon installer? I am getting the Fiscon unit installed soon and I would like to have it working correctly.

Needs to come with it I believe... not 100% sure though.

The one I got (not fitted yet!) says on the back:

SW 1.67
SWP 1.70

I think the first one is the one that needs to be 1.62 or higher.

End users can upgrade SWP - the cellphone compatibility firmware. Mine is already at the latest - 1.70.

The SW cannot be end user upgraded. Mine is 1.67. You need 1.62 or higher I believe. If it's not, it's a new unit needed I think.

Doing it myself next weekend... bought it from Kufatec in Germany. E420, so about $740 at current exchange rate.

Had the Fiscon unit fitted to my car last week, FANTASTIC!! copies phone book - from both my phone and my wifes(Nokia N95 and 6210 Nav) but doesn't support call lists.... oh well.

Also doesn't do SMS, but I think that is just our phones..
