Yes just got rid of my BMW X3 3.0d and that had a serious sunroof but only opened it about a couple of dozen times in 3 yrs.

If I could find a fully optioned black 36 wagon I would happily take it with sunroof, but if i had to drop an option it would be my first.

Can anyone tell me how good the upgraded stereo sounds compared to standard?

Hi dcashion, firstly welcome! the Dynaudio is awesome!! but you will find some that agree with me and some that don't, I guess that depends on how you like your music and probably also what type of music you listen to.

I listened to the standard system, then the dynaudio, and to me the difference is chalk and cheese, amazing sound, incredible bass with no subwoofers... if you get it you won't be dissappointed.

can certainly vouch for the bass in the dynaudio...it is amazing....personally i think the dynaudio in the passat is worth going for given the amount of effort that has gone into its design....that and how freaking good it sounds!

some good info on the audio/tech side of things here...

Then there's people like me who think "amazing sound, incredible bass with no subwoofers..." about the standard system. There was a Passat with the dynaudio system on the lot when I bought my R36 but I couldn't work out how they can charge so much extra for it as there's not that much difference.

You can get some very good bass out of the standard system, you just need to tweak the bass in the tone controls and then tweak it on the recordings if necessary. In fact, the bass is really quite good, and extended, if you push it with tone controls or EQ, considering the small size of the cones and the fact that they are door speakers. You just need to turn up the volume a little to get the bass thumping as you would with any sound source.

The standard system is supposed to have 250watts of power, but whether that is rms or peak is anyone's guess. Listening to the system, I think it may actually be 250watts rms, ie 125watts each front and rear, as these new digital amps seem to get quite prodigious amounts of power out of small and releatively cool running setups.

If using an iPod, try tweaking iTunes which allows for equalization and this can go a long way to "fixing" any bass/treble shyness that the recordings may have. Let's face it, with these recordings, we are in the hands of the recording engineers who do not always get it right and this is why we now have many "digitally remastered CD's" etc. I have recorded and then re-recorded some tracks, using the EQ of iTunes, just to get the bass (and treble) just right and well balanced. I now have the bass control of the in-car stereo set at 0.

Been on the phone looking to find one. It amazes me how some of these VW dealers expect you to put money down just to look for a car with the specs that I need.

I thought that's what the computers on their desk were for. Its like I am asking them to personally drive out to the holding yard and look at every vehicle in there.

                  Bugga.

I guess that I will have to wait for new stock to arrive or a second hand one to come up.

I am amazed at how prices vary between dealers. Its amazing

Is anyone willing to disclose how much of a good deal they got when the purchased an R36 lately ?

Hi - I'm in the market for one too. The price I was given from my local dealer was $69,599 drive away for a stock wagon (no options, apart from an electric tailgate, which he suggested is on all the cars in the country for some reason). Throwing in a sunroof and reverse cam took added $5,090 to the price. They said there was no price difference in getting an MY08 versus MY09 model, which I thought was ridiculous. This is all "pre-negotiation", so I hope they'll sharpen their pencils when the cash is on the table.

I'd love to know what you came across in terms of price, as I'm going to buy next week. Hey - what do you think they'll do if we went in asking for two?

Oh - I also saw something about 3 years free scheduled servicing for business customers ...

$70,000 drive away ($25,000 drive away change over on my trade-in)

I wasn't fussy. I actually wanted a white one and didn't care if it had no options (I had a TomTom and have had cars with and without sunroofs before). They couldn't find a brand new one to get from another dealer and they can't swap trades and demos so I bit the bullet and bought the one they had on their showroom floor. Suited me. Took 4 days to be in my garage from when I decided I wanted an R36, to having one.
