Locating an aux power supply

Can any one help me.

I want to put a mobile (blue tooth) phone cradle to the left of the steering wheel and run a power supply to the phone from under the dash. I don't want to visually see the power cables in the cigarette/power socket at the front as I want it to look neat. I have read how I can pull the dash apart and tap into the rear of the front cigarette lighter but is there anywhere else I can get positve and negative feeds to the phone from under the dash without extensive removal of the dash.

You can tap into the fuse box which is to the right of the dash ( check the manual for location. use a spare fuse point (ie no fuse currently in the socket) which provides +12V (supply power is the top half of the fuse socket). to plug into the socket, you can use a 6.3mm Quick connect terminal. this is your +12v. **** make sure you fit a fuse shortly after the tQC connector near the socket.

for the ground you will need to drill into the metal work and use a metal thread.

once you have +12 and ground you can feed this through the dash to your desired location without too much trouble.

if you need more help i can do a photo,
the nice thing about this setup is you dont have to tap into any car wiring which is a worry.

I have used this concept to bypass the switched 12V to the rear +12V cig lighter on all the time to charge batteries.

passat fuse box- constant 12v source.

hi craig

attached is a pic of how i changed the rear 12v cig outlet to constant 12V power with the ignition off. if you want constant 12v you would plug into the top socket as i have ( just below the 5A fuse). the metal bracket below will give you a ground point.

Don't forget the fuse! . the supply point is probably off a 100A or similar fuse which if you blow that would likely take out a lot of the electrics .

in my case the bottom socket is the fused outlet (bottom of the 2) to the rear 12v cigarette lighter.
