Yeah, I use my brakes when parking. Ordinarily I might also use a hand brake when on a hill and trying to get into a tight space (ie. to avoid rolling back into the car parked behind me, which in some cases might only be inches away). Perhaps I'm just not quick enough with my foot transition from brake to gas, as I find I often roll back at least a few inches.
slighlty o/t but I leave mine off all the time, never really need it during normal driving, but yesterday had to do a reverse park on a very steep hill with a pole in close proximity (I don't trust the reverse sensors 100%). Forgot that the auto hold needed seat belt to be on as I had got out of the car to check distances etc. Trying to hold the car and then release on either the park or foot brake doesn't work well. After much swearing did the RTFM trick. Apart from that never had any issues with engaging or disengaging. Refer to page 21 of the driving section in the manual, will see if I can scan.
However if you have the park brake fully on, are in drive, all doors closed and seat belt on, you can just drive away (forward or reverse) and the park brake will disengage automatically.
Not in mine... if the park brake is fully on, you need to disengage it by pressing the button before the car will move, regardless of whether I have the auto brake on or off!
Since i picked up my R36 i have had the Auto hold feature disable on me twice, and a P symbol appear on the console. Has anyone had this problem?
First time it occured i drove to the dealer and they did a scan , but did not find an issue.
I had the same problem which I ignored for a few months until the handbrake also started to intermitently get stuck on or off. It was recently fixed by replacing the handbrake button (part # 3CO927225CREH).
I am such an idiot!!! Didn't realise if you have auto hold on and go into reverse or drive the park brake will disengage automatically.... Doh!! Handy for steep hills.
I'm going to have to retract my earlier claims about the park brake engaging when i wait for my apartment garage doors to open while i'm using auto hold. Even though the front wheels are on inclined ramp, while i wait for the doors to open, i've worked out it's due to me taking off my seatbelt while i wait that triggers the park brake to engage, nothing else.
Cheers,
Jayse.
