  • Auto Hold Problem R36

Since i picked up my R36 i have had the Auto hold feature disable on me twice, and a P symbol appear on the console. Has anyone had this problem?

First time it occured i drove to the dealer and they did a scan , but did not find an issue.

i.e. you mean that the car was in park and then the autohold turned off or you mean you start the car and turned it off and then on turning on the car it was off again ?

If the auto-hold is on for more than 3 mins or so in a stationary position, auto hold switches off and the Park Brake switches on automatically.

i was in drive in traffic, auto hold was on. At some point during driving it just decided to disable itself and display the park brake warning light. I was then unable to activate the auto hold button again without stopping and restarting the car.

Sounds like you need to talk to your dealer to sort it out, as I have had no problems...so far

                  Hey Ray,

I've had something simliar happen with my car.

When i'm approaching my garage and press the buzzer to open the doors, i have to wait, while the doors open, with my front wheels are on a ramp of a slight incline entering the garage. For some reason the (P) Park Brake engages without me pushing it. I havent checked if i've had the Auto Hold button pressed already, but generally (ie: more often than not) i do use the Auto Hold function when driving.

So when the doors open, i go to drive in but the car doesn't go cos the Park Brake is on.
Just an annoyance more than anything. It doesn't happen any other time. This would've happened prob 5-8 times.

Hope the Service Dept can find a fix for you.

                  Cheers,
                  Jayse.

When you have the autohold on, and you undo the driver's seatbelt, it automatically engages the Park brake.

Perhaps this is the cause Jayse??

A light tap on the accelerator will cause the parking break to disengage.

Happened again yest after driving home from Daylesford for the long weekend.

DID NOT have the autohold on and seatbelt was still on.

Will try the light tap on the accelerator next time.

                      Cheers,

Anyone still having problems with their Autohold? I set mine to come on by default through the MFD, but find it often switched off mid drive - usually at the most inopportune times. Today, midway through a reverse park into a reasonably tight spot on a fairly steep hill, the Autohold switched off and wouldn't re-engage when I pressed the Autohold button. Made things a little un-elegant, using both pedals to compensate for the lack of handbrake ... perhaps I could have used the park brake button as a handbrake (?) ... Anyhow, is anyone else having trouble with Autohold?

It almost feels as though it disengages when the parking sensors start to go bananas ...

Same here - pull up to reverse into my driveway, pop car into reverse, sometimes the parking brake will engage by itself (can't recall if I took off my seat belt). Car is on the level road - not an incline.

However once I start reversing the Auto Hold disables itself completely - is that supposed to happen?

                          Geoff.

Wow... So much concern over issues that appear to be more a lack of understanding of how it works.

Autohold uses the park brake to work but doesn't fully engage. It only engages enough to stop the car moving. When stopped and auto-hold is activated automatically, it will switch to full park brake if you change to neautral, unplug your seatbelt, open the door, or as has been mentioned after a certain amount of time not moving. However if you have the park brake fully on, are in drive, all doors closed and seat belt on, you can just drive away (forward or reverse) and the park brake will disengage automatically.

I have noticed with autohold that on a steeper slope it will use the full park brake too.

Regarding the issue of just driving along and the park brake coming on, that's definitely an issue to be worried about and a dealer should be consulted.

Thanks Rocket. So, when parallel parking on a hill, are you suggesting that the autohold disengages when switching gears from reverse to drive (say when straightening up) as it passes through neutral?

It is annoying that it does this without providing an ability to re-engage the autohold (ie. pressing the autohold button does nothing).

In such instances, do you press the parking brake button to maintain your position on a hill?
