  • RNS510 to play movie while vehicle in motion

Just wondering if anyone has worked out how to make the RNS510 system play movies while the car is in motion?

I really want to avoid having to install another DVD player system so my kid can be entertained during long trips.

This really seem to be a pointless safety feature in my opinion.

there would be a wire linked to your handbrake somewhere ... my best guess.

One click up on the handbrake ? (not enough to engage the hand brake, but enough to light the light? (used to work in older/other vehicles)

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Nan, it has nothing to do with the handbrake cos I had it playing without the handbrake on. The screen goes blank when the speed reaches above approx. 10km/hr. But if the car comes to a stop (still no handbrake on) the screen will re-appear. So it must be programmed to the speedometer......

          Interesting...

I know the sat nav in fully installed kits is able to "guess" where you are when it looses a satellite lock by knowing your speed... so maybe something you don't want to remove anyway...

Other than that I'm out of ideas.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Can't do that on the new-ish Passat - the handbrake is electronic and is engaged with the press of a button

There are pass through loops that make this work just google the model plus speed deafeat plenty about it on Euro forumns

I believe some models still give you speed for GPS when in tunnels etc.

The RNS510 can not at this stage be defeated for VIM (Video in Motion) - it gets its speed signal from the canbus system, so its a little tricky to defeat.

Now saying that - having a video playing in the head unit whilst moving is completely illegal & downright dangerous. I believe each state gives it a pretty hefty fine!

You should be so lucky to have an RNS510, I've had my Passat 3 months now, paid for RNS510 but not delivered. Now I'm hearing it could still be Jan 09 before I get one.

Anyway, there is a video in motion module available. Go to www.mp3yourcar.com.au and follow the prompts.

                  Good luck.

You can get Video in Motion, check out VWNavi.com

I'm thinking about it at the moment, but only if I can "build" a temporary device to cover the screen from the drivers eyes. I don't even want to think about the distraction of glancing down at the screen whilst driving.

Just because it is illegal does not mean it is necessarily dangerous especially when the purpose is solely for the passengers. If it is really that dangerous then perhaps Sat Navigation should also be illegal. Come on...how many drivers really only listen to the voice, most of us look at the screen too.

Any sensible driver should know the position of their responsibility when driving and not look at the screen if they know it is going to jeopardise the safety of its passengers.

However, these devices are illegal solely to protect the less sensible drivers is my opinion.
