You need to basic set them to re-learn the end positions once the new pads are installed.

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

"Total Car Diagnostics" - Any thoughts on their VAG-COM alternative?

Did sound too good to be true and thought there would more than likely be an issue re-setting it like that. PM'd the "Southern Mechanic" a couple of times and he assured me no issues whatsoever - no issues with operation of the rear brakes and no fault codes displayed. Will keep monitoring feedback on his You Tube channel to see if anyone reports any issues in the future - have to say, so far so good! Lot better option than the alternative solution out there to put a 12V battery across the EPB servo motor!
Still might consider Ross-Tech but will see if the "Southern Mechanic" method catches on.

Think I'll steer well clear of TCD - was tempted, but too much of a bad smell about them: Toad Obd - customer service, Review 751640 | Complaints Board
Will save up a few $s and go with Ross Tech.

PS: I have been using Ross-Tech gear for many years and I can thoroughly recommend their products. My trusty HEX-NET is ALWAYS my cable-of-choice. But if you are a newby to the field of diagnostic cables, then consider OBDeleven as a first-buy. OBD11 has many shortcomings compared to Ross-Tech, but it is a good entry level tool and it's very well priced (and it is not a fake)Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

Wow, glad I did some more reading-up on all of this, I came pretty close to pulling the trigger
VAG-COM VCDS 2019 - OBD2 Diagnostic Cable & Software (for VAG Cars: VW, AUDI, SEAT, SKODA)
VAGCOM 18.9 USB Cable & VCDS 18.9 Original VAG-COM Software (Audi, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen Cars)
What a dodgy character, keen to support VCDS, such an amazing platform.
But at this very early stage, I think it's massive overkill for me...
Getting my first VW in ~1wk: Polo GTI, MY20 (late July build), Pure White, Fully Optioned.
My 1st brand new & pricey-ish car, too! (many other 1sts; 1st Euro, 1st non-Manual, it goes on)
I have bought an OBD11 v2 Pro pack from Auto Instruct...
In 12mth+ if it's boring me, I'll turn my attention to alternatives like VCDS.
That's more sensible than buying both at once (& maybe Carista too!), & then possibly hardly using 1 or the other.
Great little local community this forum....
Thinking of starting a club (mainly VW Hatchbacks but may open it to other VAG makes/models) for my region (Ballarat) on MeetUP!
Cheers all
