Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Reverse Camera + Cable harness

Having issues with the reverse camera and boot wont open on pressing the boot badge on Passat 09 cc.

Boot will open from boot release switch on drivers door panel.

Found the three broken wires in the boot area where the wiring harness comes out of the inner boot lid tubing .

Camera comes on with dark background & the steering lines imposed on the RNS510 screen.

Camera unit / rear badge has not tilted to open position.

Checked internal wiring harnesses on both sides of boot lid.

Question 1 how does the boot open when pressing the badge ?

Question 2 where does the 12v come from to drive the badge / camera motor.

    Any hints

The release switch in the badge is grounded to the point behind the left boot liner; the other wire goes directly to the CCM (Yellow grey cable at the left connector harness)

Power for the motor comes from fuse SC17 the ground that completes the circuit comes from the reverse lights.

It's a common problem with the wiring failing in the hinge.

Thanks MIG for the helpful information and diagrams.

Checked SC17 5 amp fuse located on drivers side dash panel with ohm meter - good

The original VW manuals refer to fuse 17 for Parking brake / ESP
Both parking brake & esp are working
The manual shows orientation of the fuse block 180 degrees to what is found.

Checked connector in boot well right side single connector T2a ( red yellow ) - 0 volts ( should be 12v , reverse gear and boot closed )
Disconnected T2a ( red yellow ) and wired 12v onto the camera motor side.

When placed into reverse gear , camera came up on RNS510 and pressing the rear emblem badge released the boot.

Getting too dark and tired to trace the red / yellow wire to the fuse block.
      Leave for another day.
      Thanks again for the info

Ok finally traced the red wire with yellow stripe back to fuse block behind the driver side storage box.
Found the red/yellow wire by chance .
The wire goes to a 15A fuse located above the top left relay ( 53 ) carrier. Found the fuse to be blown.
Next to the 15a blue fuse is another yellow 20 A fuse .
Cannot find in the circuit diagrams the designation / labelling of these two fuses.Click image for larger version
