I had an intermittent rattle that would come from the drivers side suspension. This also caused a slight clunk when reserving cold start on a decline (not DSG noises).
It was hard to replicate but I was lucky enough to show a VW Tech and they fixed it.
Steps I took to replicate. Put the car in Sports mode drive for a bit then put it Comfort mode. Drive over a speed hump without breaking. So you want to brake before the hump but not while going over the hump and make the car weight shift as much as possible.
The drivers side lower control arm bushing was replaced and I have not heard it again for the last 2 weeks.
